Up Reissue predictions?

ha! Some fan I am, lol. I guess I should have known that. Anyway, this is a nice song. I always viewed the Man on the Moon soundtrack as both a profoundly creative move on the band’s part but also a bit of a letdown. I just assumed there’d be more tracks. I know people are sick of me hyping/harping about Trent Reznor (genius!) but when he does a soundtrack release, it’s basically a three volume set. The dude’s prolific. Speaking of Up and this soundtrack, I’d actually love to hear a studio version of Great Beyond done much more faithful to the live version: same tempo, more rocking. I love TGB, but the live version kicks the studio one’s ass IMO.

FFS, it’s happening!

There was so much talk online that they would likely abandon the format, but this… this is hope (pun intended)!

I have the Cd special edition of Up which I absolutely love. I saw fans on twitter asking for vinyl. If they issue an original master recording it would top off what I have. Has a master recording of Up been released before? I’m not sure.

I would love to have This Way Up in better resolution than my VHS copy taped off of IFC. Also as others have mentioned, soundboard of the Tibetan Freedom Concert. I’m working on cobbling together the best video and audio I can find of that set. I know there were audio and performance issues, but it was a unique show and I think an important one for the band. (Also it was the first time I saw them live  )

Up was the first album by the band that I bought on release day. In fact, most likely my first ever album I bought on release day. I’ve always loved it from start to finish.

Not much of a thought but I’ve always found it curious (jarring perhaps) that on those DVD-A releases a few years back there is one song on Up that has some different lyrics that made it into those 5.1 surround sound mixes - the track escapes me but it may have been Hope.

I think you might be thinking of Diminished. The DVD-A version has a few extra lines. I kinda prefer that version.

Yes, that’s the song - thank you. That has saved me trying to find my DVD-A copy to check!

I would just love to see/hear a vinyl release on par with Around The Sun and Collapse Into Now

That’s pretty cool!

Such a shame the UK store stopped operating though, those international shipping rates really hit the wallet.

Yes, very hefty prices. That said, after the UK left the EU, the toll and import taxes went through the roof, too. So… In the end not a massive difference.

this is a random internet rumor, but i’m sharing here in case anyone can shed any light on it.

someone on the steve hoffman forums has claimed that one bandmember has vetoed the release of any unreleased material going forward. they said work was done on an expanded chronic town reissue with unreleased studio/live material that was canceled.

this seems ridiculous considering all the demos and live stuff they’ve released already, but in light of the very disappointing NAIHF and chronic town reissues, it also feels like there could be some truth to it. i hope not.

This was uploaded to the REM fans United fb group. Its supposedly a fragment of the reissue back cover. Gonna be another live recording,
no demos, outtakes, whatever new or old exciting stuff. This is so disappointing i dont even know what to say.

Their creation, their choice of course, but that’s a pretty disappointing release if accurate.

If that’s all, then it’s an easy pass. Why even bother continuing reissues?

too bad

Yeah. They could just reprint or repress the stuff as it was. I mean they dont owe us anything, quite the contrary, but still.
