Nice cover. Agree about Making Movies. “Tunnel of Love” is also a candidate for my favorite song, so the one-two of those songs starting off the album is hard to beat. “Les Boys” is terrible though, ha.

Semi-related, in that this song also originally came from a Jimmy Iovine-produced album from the early 80s, here’s Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers playing “The Waiting” in 2006, with Eddie Vedder on vocals:

Yep, “Les Boys” is all that prevents me from saying that album is listenable from start to finish.

This is great! I loved Dire Straits (still do, actually), and that’s a spectacular album.

I’m also a big fan of Communiqué which I mentioned in a FB group I belong to the other day. Someone tried to sway my opinion saying Knopfler didn’t care for it for some reason or another. They were not successful. I still love it and will for the rest of my days. I don’t care what he or anyone else thinks of it.

I’ve often thought it really doesn’t matter to me what an artist (of any medium) thinks of a particular work. Once it’s out in the world, it belongs to its listeners (or viewers or readers) as much as it does to its creator.

I agree. I don’t even know if what that person said is true. I know in some recent interviews Stipe and Mills have said they don’t want to reveal what their least favorite R.E.M. songs are. I guess because they believe it would change how the fans feel about them. While it would be interesting to know, it wouldn’t change how I feel one way or another. Patterson Hood of Drive-By Truckers doesn’t think that highly of their first album (Gangstabilly) mainly because it’s so low fi from a production standpoint but it’s my favorite album of theirs.

Tunnel of Love is one of my fav songs on Making Movies too. It evokes feelings of nostalgia, visiting the amusement park, the wild rides & falling in love. “When were kids”:ferris_wheel: :two_hearts:

Last time I saw U2 was 2019 on their Joshua Tree tour. They hadn’t lost any of their fire. I’ve seen them twice before in 1984 & 1989.

One of my biggest concert regrets is missing them kick off the tour in support of War at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, NC in 1983. From all accounts, it was one for the ages. I finally saw them on the 360° tour in 2009 which I enjoyed but I’m sure it was a far cry from seeing the young and hungry U2 of 1983.

I missed one of U2’s tours here, the Zoo tour, I think it was in the early 90’s. The tickets sold out so fast, I tried to get tickets the day they went on sale but no chance. I think scalpers were rampant at the time.

Love that Red Rocks performance.

I saw U2 twice, once on the Elevation tour in 2001 and once on the 360 tour in 2009.
