Post a live video

This is my all time favourite live video (apart from you know who). Its Johnny Flynn (before he was famous) and Laura Marling from 2010 singing “The Water”. Oddly only a version with Johnny Flynn as the main voice part ( and a very quiet Laura Marling part) is now available on iTunes. Still, it makes it good for a karaoke singalong while walking when there’s no one else around in the local park

I’m not sure how I managed to miss this when it originally aired but I did. Better late than never. I love this rearrangement of “Seventeen” as it’s reminiscent of Sharon’s earlier, more melancholic sound. I have not been as into her more recent material. I prefer the early stuff.

Just appeared on my radar thanks to Ann Powers.

Report from R.E.M. HQ -"Luke Haines, Peter Buck, Scott McCaughey, Linda Pitmon and Nick Fowler rockin the Omeara in London. Lots of old friends at the show! We were hurried out afterwards because there was a sex party scheduled for later in the evening. I wasn’t invited. Ageism I reckon.” – Peter

16/8/25 (I’m not sure if this was the same night.)

In the spirit of “living my life filled with joy and wonder” I’ve been out for coffee with friends to celebrate a birthday and had a good laugh and have watched Monty Python’s "And Now For Something Completely Different” from 1971 on DVD this evening. Here’s the Parrot Sketch and Lumberjack Song:

Has everyone seen this? Isn’t he the greatest? The Beatles as musical theatre- absolutely, and my 3 year old granddaughter is singing Let It Be at her musical theatre class which she loves! By the way it’s the Hokey Cokey Michael (and we have-had- a donated sign in the Oxfam shop saying “What if the Hokey Cokey is what it’s all about?” On another note, I’ve also interpreted the word “Strange” as meaning “Strong Angel” but then again, I’m strange…( or am I?) The Dictionary (you know, that book written largely by that fellow that got badly injured during the American Civil War and ended up in a psychiatric hospital over here in England) says “extraneous”, “foreign” ( Middle English from Old French: “estrange”: from Latin “extraneus”- (extraneous i.e. “outside” “of external origin”). So there you go- all of us strangers.

Out of the vast sea of Youtube comes Japanese people making stuffed animals play the Infernal Dance from Orpheus in the Underworld (aka the song used for the can-can dance) on marimba.

Oh that is so cool clever and funny all at the same time! Made me laugh out loud- thank you!

God knows this Nick Lowe written and produced song from Elvis Costello and The Attractions Armed Forces Album of 1979 (which I have) is even more relevant today. My interpretation is that we all stand under = “understanding” God’s blue sky (i.e all humans are the same) but nothing seems to change……or many just don’t get it…

Yes! I have been stressed out about some things recently, and when I saw that yesterday I was grinning the entire time.

From a couple nights ago from the last episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live which has since been yanked from the airwaves because the U.S. is now being ruled by a fascist regime.

I’ve been getting into a lot of Country & Western recently and have a big old playlist now ( and it keeps getting bigger and bigger). As a music genre it must provide consolation to so many people in troubled times. In particular I like John Denver, Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, Patsy Cline, Gram Parsons (amongst many others). Thanks for posting.

I’ve woken up with this one in my head today- there are buildings getting higher and higher all around here- it’s all changing so fast. When we landed in NY in 2000 the first thing I did was acquire a Mini Disc Player (long since lost but a great little thing- helped me cope with Mum’s early dementia- and 3 discs and Cher was one of them, Bach was another and I’ve forgotten the third. Anyway here’s a live performace of a great Diane Warren song (and we do miss old Terry on the Beeb with his cheeky lilting Irish accent! )

Not concentrating on the news (very hard, but if you want to stay sane, Im not sure what else to do) today’s a big one in the sports world as its the final in the Womens World Rugby Cup (England v Canada). I’ll be going to watch it somewhere,For those who don’t know anything about it its a bit like American Football without the protection garb. And I swear the women are better than the men- more determined, more aggressive, more passionate (a player got bitten in the semi finals!- that’s a sending off foul needless to say). The St George flags are flying and England are favourites as no 1 in the World but Canada are 2nd in the world so it should be a humdinger! Anyway, their song is “Living on a Prayer” (Heaven knows why we have an American one- as we do for the football- Sweet Caroline). So, here’s something to encourage the girls for today….
