My reply to a thread, “Songs that mention something disgusting” on bluesky.soc. I remembered this song about a dead skunk in the middle of the road.
“All over the road, Technicolor!”
For no apparent reason and just because its the middle of a very hot night and I can’t sleep I thought you might enjoy this funny- it was filmed incidentally at the lock down the road from me…you all know the saying “Well it’s better than a slap in the face with a wet fish” and "There’s always a bigger fish! " I presume? Sorry, I can’t seem to do "copy URL in current time " on this one…
I use to listen to the radio in bed, David Bowie’s A Space Oddity was played a lot at the time, and I would fall asleep during the beginning of the song. I’m not sure if the drone was making me doze off because it was soothing, or boring. I got to hear the whole song finally and it was spectacular.
Adventure Rocket Ship
A lover and a slave
The skeletons of spacemen
Unzipper me with love
I’m coming for you someday
As faithful as a mummy
Discovered in a crater
Hermaphrodite in style
You crash upon a star
Crash and burn
All the stars explode tonight
How’d you get so desperate?
How’d you stay alive?
Help me please
Burn the sorrow from your eyes
Oh come on be alive again
Don’t lay down and die
It’s three o clock, we’re driving in your car
You’re screaming out the window at the stars
Please don’t drive me home
Blame us 'cause we are who we are
Hate us 'cause you’ll never get that far
And who’d suppose you would go
I’ve already learned enough to know
Fast asleep in this dangerous world
Every star was shining brightly
Just like a million years before
And we were feeling very small
Underneath the universe
I was feeling insecure
You might not love me anymore
I was shivering inside
I was shivering inside
I didn’t mean to hurt you
I’m sorry that I made you cry
I didn’t want to hurt you
I’m just a jealous guy
I pulled into Nazareth, was feeling about half past dead;
I just need some place where I can lay my head.
“Hey, mister, can you tell me where a man might find a bed?”
He just grinned and shook my hand, and “No!”, was all he said.
I laughed and shook his hand
And made my way back home
I searched for form and land
For years and years I roamed
I gazed a gazely stare
At all the millions here
Who knows? Not me
We never lost control
You’re face to face
With the Man who Sold the World
