Who were we back then?

What a great typo that we wore like a badge of honor.

My name is Jesse and I was mostly genera seven. That was an old name I was gonna use for a band, that never happened. I’m working on being a DJ with a friend I met in Chicago(I’m Gonna DJ, ironically, is one of my least fave songs*) My user name has a couple of origins. The original origin, was… I had an old placard of my name when I was a kid. It was the shape of a “j” with “esse” written on it. It was wood and totally seventies. I didn’t like how my name backwards was “essej”, I was watching Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and like how in old English the "j"s were actually "i"s then. essei, just looked better to me. 7 is simple, it’s my favorite number. The way it’s written is kind of a middle finger against a site and how they approached usernames. They wouldn’t let you use periods. So I put in the written out “point”. I actually will go by it as written. I am growing my hair out for Children With Hair Loss. I did it last year too. It was easy with having to stay in and only going to work.

Sorry. I’m a bit long winded.

I was brentwoode back then, rsbinpvd now . . . still in Providence, RI. I’m in semi-retired indie rocker mode, less gigs, more theatre / performance arts / Fringe fest producer. Also the self-proclaimed Clam Cake Queen of Lil Rhody because I like celebrating local culture in the most ridiculous manner possible.

As much as RI is known for a Québécois population historically, I cannot see Canada from my house.

I was michaels_muppet - clearly a 14/15 year old when I signed up giving that username lol. Don’t think it needs to be resurrected this time! Signed up in about 2005 I think.
I spent so many of those teen years on murmurs, I was (and still am) a R.E.M. fanatic and this place gave me a real sense of community. I remember the excitement of looking at people’s concert photos, seeing the setlists, waiting for news, fanclub single posts… nothing has ever came close to those days in terms of my excitement or love of a band/music.

Great to see you all back!

I was wendellg then and now, real name Nancy. I met some wonderful people on the old boards and have travelled the world meeting up with them and have had some come visit me. Have had a few life changes along the way including a new job where I too can see Canada, not from my house, too many trees, but from the mezzanine in the building my office is in. Good to be back.

I was made aware that someone thought I was taking about this site, when I said the middle finger thing. It wasn’t. It was quite a while ago on a different site. Sorry, for any confusion.

I joined Murmurs a little before Accelerate dropped so mid 2000sish. I went by blueshades as that was my handle on ATU2.com as well (RIP). I began a blog called AthensMusicJunkie.com to keep my pals up to date on all the weird and wonderful happenings of Athens, GA and I’m still running it! Granted, there were several years I didn’t post and the site now isn’t like it was then but I’m still here, it’s still here, and now murmurs is here.

I’m still in Athens though I’m now not a college student at UGA. I worked in academic publishing for a decade (plug for Widespread Panic in the Streets of Athens) and am now working from home full time in the tv biz. Got married to a musician/light tech last year, won some awards for my local radio program, and am still writing music junk on the weekends. So glad to see you all!!!

New here because I didn’t know about this amazing site and feel bereft that I missed out but glad to be here now and hope its okay to post here. I call the Shetland Islands Scotland home but grew up in the USA and began my obsession with R.E.M. when I was a kid over 30 years ago. I met my closest group of friends thanks to the band and every step of my life R.E.M. has been the soundtrack. I look forward to meeting people with this similar love and passion.

I was here back in the day. Met my wife on Murmurs through weird convoluted circumstances; we’re still together and living in a rural Northumberland.

Hello! I was Quietcats in the old days too (or maybe spelled differently - I can’t remember must be an age thing)
I’m really Julia. I’m still married to Tim, 36 years married in March.
My kids are all grown up and I’m now a nanny to the scrumptious Felix who is almost 4 months old.
I’m looking forward to catching up here with old friends and making some new ones.
See you feaks on the boards! X

I was Pelagius42 then and I am Pelagius42 now. Actually I’m Zachary Horn.

When I joined I was a 20 year old undergrad then doing a History/Sociology double major in Waterloo Ontario.
In 2012 I was diagnosed with major depression and have been pretty bad off and on for the last ten years or so. Currently I’m starting to feel optimistic and I think I’m coming out of it a bit. What else?
Live in Hamilton, Ontario. 40 now. Married. One kid, Thomas who’s 8. Stay at home dad. Trying for a second for almost three years and that’s been frustrating at best (it’s been hellish for my wife).
Finished my PhD in 2019. unnecessary link: My dissertation.

Since Covid started I’ve been making a lot of music. It’s been bad for everything else but great for my creativity. Unnecessary link: My bandcamp

I’ve missed murmurs. It was a huge part of my life in my early 20s. I’m glad it’s back.

Hello there everyone. I’m not even sure who I was back in the day but it probably was some sort of variation of my name Loria. I wasn’t active but I lurked a lot over the years and I loved the community and the atmosphere, I just wasn’t in a place in my life at the time where I could participate as much. I’m thrilled to see the reinvention of murmurs.com and I hope it thrives. I am currently a sales representative for an environmental testing firm out of the Midwest and I very much love my job and the ability it gives me to travel.

Well said and welcome back.

If that is you Penny I thought it was cool that your name was the first I saw today besides Ethan’s. You may have no recollection of it but you are the one that showed me how to post an image online. I don’t remember what that image was but it may have been from when I saw R.E.M. and Wilco on my birthday in Raleigh in 1999. However, I’m pretty sure I was a member of Murmurs well before that because I recall the discussions of Up when it was first released. Welcome back.

I joined in 2001 or 2002 or 2003 i think. I think my username was tursk, it means “cod” (yes, the fish) in estonian. I must have been 19-21, studying journalism at the university. Well, now im gonna be 40 in a month and i am a science magazine editor. Also, i started my current band around that time 20 yrs ago. For now, we`ve released 9 albums. So those things, at least, went in the direction they were supposed to go. Other, personal stuff not so much.

Well well well, the party’s started now. Was Hezalin, am Hezalin, will always be Hezalin. I’m a horrible typist so I apologize forthwith for my Hezology. Tech fixes a lot now but you’ll get used to it. I was all over Murmurs poking my nose everywhere. Think I stumbled upon it in 99 after my first concert during the UP tour but was a long time fan before that. Met a lot of friends, online and in the real world through here. Some I still call my best friends. I did some hosting in The Trading Post and a lot of trading back then, even made some covers for boots. Not into live shows now. Gave all my boots to DriverNate when I moved out of NC.
I was in Philly then, then Raleigh in 2007 for 7 years now in Richmond, VA for 7 years. Hairdresser life forever ya’ll. Different better husband now tho.
No kids but been through several dogs and cats since then. Have one old gnarly street girl named Lemon now.
I’ve stayed in touch with most of my friends here on FB which I joined in 03 I think. Easy eay to keep in contact with everyone around the world.
5 years ago I was 45 & diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and have had lots of stuff cut out of me and over 60 chemo treatments. I’m still trucking and will keep going as long as I can. Nice to be back in Feakland.

OMG. I can’t even process Murmurs being back right now. I think some of you might remember me. I was pretty heavily involved ‘round these parts (These Elvis Poses, Non-Revealing Revealers, etc.) Was an admin. Lived in Prague for a good chunk of time. Known also as Matty.

Now I’m back in the city of my birth (NYC), married with two kids, I’m a journalist and I just bought a house.

There’s so much more I could say but I’m still sort of in shock.

I may have been jenniferannpete back then? At any rate, That’s who I am now! I was very late to the murmurs party—I think I joined in 2007 and didn’t post till 2009? At the time, I was in a teeny town in Minnesota that had giant fish statues all over everything, desperately unhappy, and doing a job I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do for the rest of my life. This community of people literally saved me and helped me grow up.

Now, I live in Cedar Rapids. I’m in a career path I actually care about, and I found and married my soulmate in the middle of a global pandemic.

Welcome back everybody! And thank you Ethan!
