Deleted my old post to clarify. The first COVID vaccine went through human trials and our own @inspectorjason was part of one. Updated vaccines, which are based on previous research and trials—again how science research works and how flu vaccines are updated annually. The current versions of vaccines were subject to trials. Moderna did clinical (human) trials. Pfizer did pre-clinical (mice) trials. The makeup of the vaccine was so similar to the previous vaccines, more rigorous trials weren’t needed because the vaccines were updated to reflect the current variants.
As Bizaleth posted above, I participated in the Pfizer COVID vaccine trial in 2020. After reading all of the conspiracy nonsense on social media that year, I wanted to be able to look back on that time in history years from now and know that I was one of the good guys and gals who were a part of the solution.
I have received every COVID booster shot since then. Last month, I got the latest flu vaccine, the new COVID booster, and my second dose of the Shingles vaccine.
Are vaccines a foolproof protection against catching COVID or the flu? No, of course not.
Seat belts are not a foolproof protection against dying in an auto accident either, though, but I still wear them whenever I am in a vehicle.
I got COVID earlier this year, back in February. I had minor cold symptoms for a couple of days, but I felt 100% after that (I still remained in isolation until I tested negative for the virus.). The vaccine did not protect me from catching the virus, obviously, but it might have well kept me from having serious symptoms and ending up on a hospital ventilator.
Like seat belts in cars, COVID vaccines have worked wonderfully with regard to minimizing the effect of the virus on the population, even if they are not foolproof protection. The vaccines have been a game changer in the battle against the pandemic.
When I received multiple boosters in one day last month, I was a bit tired the next day and I had headaches, but one Tylenol and some rest got me back to normal quickly.
As someone who worked on Covid vaccine trials, I’d just like to say that this driverate person who is citing Joe Rogan as if that’s not an obvious sign he’s wrong, is a total bozo who is spewing misinformation.
Ethan, one thing this site desperately needs is a way to block users. Why isn’t anyone deleting lies and misinformation?
Ethan hasn’t been here for a while, he’s probably doing other things, and I’m not sure if there is anyone here with moderator rights to block uses or delete posts. Once upon a time a mod would step in and close a thread that got out of order. I don’t know if this new murmurs site is supposed to have any restrictions regarding what one may say. There is this - Terms of Service - Murmurs.com
You’re right, but I suspect Ethan doesn’t want the burden of moderation and maintenance that he had before with the old site and I can’t blame him. I think a collective shun may be more appropriate.
