Well I think we’re all reflecting what it’s like to live in a world gone mad ( the lyrics backwards forwards come to mind- which REM song are they from again?) but wasn’t it ever thus? I mean look at poor old King George III (1760-1820) who lost the colonies in 1776, was in charge during Trafalgar (France v Britain /Napoleon v Nelson) in 1805 and to top it all had to go through Waterloo (France v Britain& Prussia/Napoleon v Wellington) as the man at the top of the tree in 1815. It’s no wonder he went mad (as an aside he’s my favourite character in Hamilton). It’s a mad mad mad mad world all right. We’re back to Bowie- you’ve got to Hang On to Yourself!

Hmmm not sure what all this has got to do with Stipe’s solo album except that you’ve got to Be Yourself- “You can be no-one else” as Noel Gallagher ( a Man City aka " Sky Blues" or “City”- light blue shirts supporter says) Lori you should support Newcastle Town FC (Sam Fender’s home town in NE England/Northumbria and who have the Toon Army as their fans are known amongst the most loyal in the country because of the vertical black and white stripes on their shirts. I don’t believe this- a Magpie has just landed in my garden! At least they don’t eat Bees! My sister is a Manchester United supporter- the Red Devils- Red shirts white shorts. My son in law is a Chelsea supporter (the Blues because they’re all blue strip. They’ve just been acquired by the American Todd Boehly and are languishing a bit (hee hee). A former colleague is an Arsenal supporter (nickname the Gunners as their ground was originally near the Woolwich Arsenal (gunnery). They play in an all red strip too like Liverpool (the Reds). It’s all been a bit topsy turvy recently but the top 4 teams in the Premiership are currently 1.The Gunners 2.The Sky Blues 3.The Magpies and 4.The Red Devils. We (the Bees) are about half way down but happy to be there humming along. We have a great manager in Thomas Frank. We rib each other rotten but as Bill Shankly said Football is not a matter of life and death, no no it’s much more than that :slight_smile:

Thank you, Lori! I like it. It’s hands down the best of the demos I’ve heard so far. The backing vox don’t sound cartoonish or silly to me. More of a wail. Haunting. I won’t buy it but it’s ok.

ETA— just after it finished, another track started, Drive To The Ocean. Same line up. Same gig. Man, what a draggy dirge. If that one came on the radio I would defo change the channel.

Well. This was an unexpected joy. Michael and Patti Smith who requested it. Michael said he could sing Jimmy Webb songs like a bitch, and there he is 12 years ago proving it. Wichita Lineman. Chills up and down my spine. I’m gonna try to download lt if I can, it’s gorgeous.

He played a short, solo accoustic set as part of the encore when I saw them on the Up tour. He was endearingly shit.
