Favorite podcasts

Any of the versions of the Scotts’ podcast are basically my favorite podcast ever, but the music is mostly an afterthought. I really don’t like U2 and I’m very indifferent about Taking Heads but the bullshitting is really where all of them shine. R.E.M. was just a nice bonus to an already great podcast. I don’t really see it as different podcasts as much as the same one covering multiple bands as an excuse to hang out. I hope they do something else soon.

I think Adam has a new show out so hopefully while he’s in between filming they can record something. They Might Be Talking They Might Be Giants To Me.

Has either of them ever mentioned TMBG?

I don’t think so. But if I’m hoping for an indie band, popular in the 80’s, it’s definitely going to be TMBG over Scritti Politti.

They’ve floated Prince before which would be pretty cool.

They could change the name of the podcast to a em series of incomprehensible symbols when they get to his 90s work.

I’d be ok with Prince - probably a good excuse for me to actually listen to his music.

Of course the rebellious Libertarian right leaning REM fan is going to say Joe Rogan. I have been listening and watching Joe Rogan for a few years now. I also like Russel Brand. In addition various Pro Wrestling podcast. While not a fan of the new school there are plenty of old school pro wrestling related podcast to enjoy.

History related : History of English, Tides of History are the main two. I’ve been meaning to try that Fall of Civilizations one.

Classical music related: Sticky Notes, JS Bach Files, A Moment of Bach, Coffeehouse Classical, Classical Breakdown

Other music: Strong Songs, Political Beats

Games: Three Moves Ahead

Those are the ones I listen to regularly. There are other occasional ones.

I’m partial to Song Vs. Song, a podcast hosted by Todd In The Shadows (a music critic on YouTube I’m a fan of) and Lina Morgan where they debate which is the stronger of two songs that are similar in style, theme or cultural impact.
I recommend this episode they did on It’s The End Of The World As We Know It vs. Billy Joel’s We Didn’t Start The Fire - lots of good discussion about R.E.M. and Lina’s story about how ITEOTWAWKI helped her vent about being bullied at school really stuck with me.

Sticky Notes is a really great podcast. He’s got a way of presenting and explaining works so that even dummies like me understand and appreciate them much better, and he’s not boring which a lot of classical music podcasters are.

100% agree. I like the other ones I mentioned too, but most of them veer towards either lightweight or very complicated. Sticky Notes hits the sweet spot.

I really enjoy Pete Holmes’ You Made it Weird podcast. Even during the pandemic where many of the episodes were just him and his wife they’ve been interesting and often very humorous.

I also have been listening to the It’s Always Sunny podcast as they go through the episodes of each season. They tend to ramble on and get on huge tangents but it’s so fun to just be a fly on the wall of their raw banter.

I had a lot of long solo driving last week and made it through several episodes of Fall of Civilizations. Really enjoyed it. The only problem is that I don’t often listen to podcasts that go longer than an hour, so it’s harder to get time for it, especially when it’s better to concentrate on it. Just need another road trip I guess.

Perhaps I’m not understanding the sentence, but I don’t understand how Joe Rogan is considered right wing, especially considering he supports/endorsed socialist Bernie Sanders.

Rogan does have some interesting guests and questions.

Norm MacDonald’s podcast was great.

The mainstream leftist media machine along with hypocrite phony Neil young have demonized Rogan. Myself and others like yourself know the truth.

I listen to a few, as commute 40 mins e/w daily.

The Price Of Football is a twice weekly delve into football (soccer) finance, and is a lot more interesting than Ive just made it sound.

Athletico Mince is the podcast where British comedy legend Bob Mortimer is allowed to let his mad mind wander.

Word In Your Ear is a great music pod with David Hepworth and Mark Ellen, journalists / editors of UK music magazines such as Mojo, Q, Smash Hits etc

We Buy Records is a record collecting oddity that is wonderful in its nerdiness. If, like me, you really dont like Record Store Day, this is your flavour.

Okay… I feel like I’m in a safe space here (hopefully)… Am I the only one who didn’t really like that podcast? (And please spare me the hate if you don’t agree.)

There were definitely good and interesting parts and things I learned, but overall… I think it just wandered too often. Sometimes I liked their side trips, but sometimes it was just TOO much.

I listened to it while I was cooking (when I listen to most podcasts), so the digression was something I enjoyed. It took me a bit to get used to it, but I did.
