Death is pretty final. I'm collecting vinyl

My feelings Etty are there are some listenings that were meant for vinyl. This is a hill I’ll die on. Bitches Brew by Miles Davis sounds bettter on vinyl. I’m a very tactile person when it comes to music. I get a sensation from setting a needle down. I know that may seem weird. So be it. I was happy to spend 40 bucks on an original Chronic Town (purchased a year before the reissue). I know I’m a broken record (pun intended) but the new artwork was nothing compared to the original. I listen to it once in a while and love the organic feel to it.

I take the shrink wrap off and it’s a bugger to get off. They sell a lot of things tamper resistant these days. I don’t remember buying a shrink wrapped record in the past. If anything they came with an unsealed durable plastic sleeve to protect the cover, the record could be taken out and listened to at the store with headphones.

I thought the new artwork was just for the CD and cassette. As best I can tell from Discogs, the vinyl comes in a clear sleeve with the record itself being a picture disc. I have the reissue from 2010 that came out for Record Store Day which used the original artwork. The only difference was, it was colored vinyl. I also have an early pressing I purchased in the early to mid-80s.
As I’m sure I mentioned earlier in this thread, I tend to stay out of arguments where someone says one format is superior to another. I listen to vinyl, CDs, I stream, and sometimes even listen to cassettes. I know there’s a difference but I’m not enough of an audiophile to enter those discussions. I’m also almost completely deaf in my right ear so, there’s that. However, what amazes me are the number of anti-vinyl people there are out there. It seems some are always ready to pick a fight over it for various reasons: the cost (they almost never figure in inflation), the sound quality, they contribute to air pollution, etc. Thus, is the nature of social media in general which is unfortunate. I say, enjoy what you enjoy no matter the delivery system. Well, except maybe for the person that said the sound quality of 8-tracks is superior. I feel the same way about cassettes. As for how I feel about vinyl, this article sums it up as well as anything I’ve ever read. Absolutely none of it has anything to do with sound quality.

Any new record I purchase comes shrink wrapped. However, some stores will also provide you with a protective plastic sleeve. When I got into buying vinyl on more of a regular basis again in recent years, I acquired quite a few of these. However, after a couple of times of DJing at a club, those protective sleeves ended up being a pain in the ass to put back on and take off. So, I put them aside.

When I order a brand-spanking-new vinyl record from Bandcamp or some other site, I will often request that the seller cut open the shrink wrap, remove the record disc in its inner sleeve, and place the record in the inner sleeve alongside the cover sleeve in the box. Otherwise, it is commonplace during the shipping of a vinyl record for the record to cause split seams on top edge of the cover sleeve if the shipping box is moved around a lot.
