You seem so sad...why not smile

The road is long
With many a winding turn
That leads us to who knows where, who knows where
But I’m strong
Strong enough to carry him
He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother

  • Bobby Scott, Bob Russell

So goodbye yellow brick road
Where the dogs of society howl
You can’t plant me in your penthouse
I’m going back to my plough

Elton John

Well, I keep on thinkin’ 'bout you
Sister Golden Hair surprise
And I just can’t live without you
Can’t you see it in my eyes?
Now I’ve been one poor correspondent
And I’ve been too, too hard to find
But it doesn’t mean you ain’t been on my mind

America

This is our last goodbye
I hate to feel the love between us die
But it’s over
Just hear this and then I’ll go
You gave me more to live for
More than you’ll ever know

  • Jeff Buckley

So many faces in and out of my life
Some will last
Some will be just now and then
Life is a series of hellos and goodbyes
I’m afraid it’s time for goodbye again
Say goodbye to Hollywood
Say goodbye my baby

Billy Joel

He gathered up his loved ones, and he brought them all around
To say goodbye
Nice try

Anyone want to have a bit of fun and create our own little pieces of verse, & musings? I think we’ve been schooled enough here to at least try.

A puddle of mud got in my way
I gathered up my skirt & took a giant leap
Slipped and fell in a heap
Covered in mud from head to toe
Shit happens you know

A while back I had an unfortunate but funny incident happen while watering the garden. The water pressure was so strong it flipped the hose all over the ground & dirt. I got sqiurted with mud.

And she’s the kind of girl who won’t forgive
But will forget
So take me from this party, driver,
Put me back to bed
I wanted to be loved but just got laughed at instead
So if this taxi is for hire
I’ll get in the back
Just to hear the friction of the tarmac and the tyres

Del Amitri

I’ve been cheated
Been mistreated
When will I be loved?
I’ve been put down
I’ve been pushed 'round
When will I be loved?

(the Everly Brothers, notably covered by Linda Ronstadt)

In the back of Louie’s car
Music playing on the radio
Not going very far
A night out with friends I know

Mistreated kid
Climbed up the skid
In a search for love

Oh, will you walk with me out on the wire?
'Cause, baby, I’m just a scared and lonely rider
But I gotta know how it feels
I want to know if love is wild
Babe, I want to know if love is real
Oh, can you show me

Bruce Springsteen

The messed up kids are on the corner
With no money
They sell their time they sell their drugs
They sell their body
And everywhere I see a sea of empty pockets
Beautiful girls with eyes so dark within their sockets
So far away

Jake Bugg

There’s a deep girl in the corner shop
Selling sugar for money in the dead of the night
And her soul’s in the sugar and her heart’s in the mud
And she’s crying with a stranger for someone to love
And she sings:
Look at me, see me
Look at me, save me
Free me, find me
Cause if there’s somebody for someone
Yeah, look at me

(the Corrs)

I got no money in my pocket
Or a gold locket
To keep a picture of you
And when I am blue you’ll be near me

Save me from the dead night
Can you see me?
Can you hear me?
Save me from the dead night

How deep is your love?
I really mean to learn
Cause we’re livin’ in a world of fools
Breakin’ us down
When they all should let us be
We belong to you and me

Bee Gees

See me, feel me
Touch me, heal me
Behind you, I see the millions
On you, I see the glory
From you I get opinions
From you, I get the story

The Who

All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I’ve been
And how I got to where I am
Oh, but these stories don’t mean anything
When you’ve got no one to tell them to, it’s true
I was made for you

(Brandi Carlile)

Well, it’s all right
Even if you’re old and grey
Well, it’s all right
You still got somethin’ to say
Well, it’s alright
Remember to live and let live
Well, it’s all right
The best you can do is forgive

Behind you is what you once knew
Fading black and blue
Down a misty street
1 am in the morning

Hey, blue on black, tears on a river
Push on a shove, it don’t mean much
Joker on jack, match on a fire
Cold on ice, it’s a dead man’s touch
Whisper on a scream
Doesn’t change a thing
Don’t bring you back
Blue on black
