U2: Songs of Surrender

Anyone else listen to the U2 Songs of Surrender album? I basically like it, but it also seems like a side project that got elevated to a major release for some reason, possibly just because they hadn’t come out with anything else for 5 years.

Some of the remakes work for me and some don’t. “Electrical Storm” is a good one. “Stories for Boys” and “11 O’Clock Tick Tock” and “Two Hearts Beat As One” are all good too, and very different from the originals.

Less sure about some of the big hits – don’t really like “One” or “Beautiful Day”.

I went all in and bought the 4-LP box set last week.

I love how U2 brings a lot of deep cuts to the table. “Stories for Boys”, “Dirty Day”, “If God Will Send His Angels”, etc.

These are some of the best-sounding vinyl records that I own. U2 always goes the full nine yards with their 180 gram vinyl releases, and this collection is no exception.
