Jerry Garcia is 30 years gone as of today. A monumental loss. As a kid just starting to fall in love with music in the early to mid-70s, Workingman’s Dead was among the first albums I ever owned. This, based purely on the strength of hearing “Casey Jones” on the radio. I had to have the record it came from and set out to track it down.
Workingman’s Dead, along with those other early album purchases helped to form the foundation of all the music I would come to love from that moment on. I’m sure it’s also a huge reason why acoustic Dead is one of my absolute favorite things in the world. Though it came a bit later, I’d be remiss if I didn’t also mention the debut album from Old & in the Way, another hugely impactful record for me.
