R.I.P Diane Keaton. One of my favourite and memorable movie scenes from the 1981 film, Reds, set in the Bolshevik revolution, Jack (Warren Beatty) reunites with Louise (Diane Keaton)

Jealousy- one of the seven deadly sins and not an easy one to tackle. It means “feeling resentment or envy (of a person, his advantages etc) on account of known or suspected rivalry; feeling of intolerant of disloyalty” etc (according to the OED). From the Old French “gelos” and medieval Latin zelosus (as in zeal). Anyway, the important thing to remember I think is that “Nobody’s Perfect” (last line of Billy Wilder’s “Some Like It Hot” ) and there is nobody who cannot be envied for something. Conversely, we all have our pluses and minuses and nobody gets off Scott free from trials and tribulations in this world (and we don’t know what the next one looks like do we?) so all we can do is our best to lead a good life- as far as possible not hurting others because in doing that we only hurt ourselves (do as you would be done by). Probably a counsel of perfection though- whoops-gone round in a circle there I think.Anyway, having a perceived hard/shitty time here (or giving myself one- probably the latter) so picking myself up with one of my mum’s old favourites:

Not sure this is the right thread, but I like this thread so I’m putting it here.

I’m just back from the first play I’ve seen in a long time, and probably the best play I’ve ever seen. I’m a huge Aaron Sorkin fan so I was looking forward to this classic American story. It didn’t disappoint. Beautifully written, well acted, stunning stage sets. Just fantastic.

Yes! One of mine too. We did this book for “O” Level English Literature in 1975. There are so many lines from it which have stayed with me- the most important one being “You don’t know a person until you’ve put his/her shoes on and walked around in them for a bit” (or something like that- I can’t be bothered to go and fish it off the bookshelf and look up the quote, sorry). A real lesson in how not to be racist because were all the same. So many themes in fact. And then there’s Boo Radley, the unsung hero of course. The film was great too- Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch and even Dennis Hopper in his first film as Boo Radley. Altogether Fabulous- all of it

What? Somethings gone wrong with my machine, sorry- technical fault. Must go to bed. Goodnight All..

I first saw the movie when I was a kid, didn’t understand all of it but loved it just the same. I felt a connection with Scout, Gem & Dill because they kids too. Later on in high school, we had to read the book for study in English class. I watched the movie again around that time and got to really appreciate the story. It remains a memorable favourite with me too.

Harper Lee has just published another book I noticed- must get hold of that too- can’t remember the title though- it’s in our local bookshop. So many books, so little time… :green_book:
