I’ve revived my blog

During a recent meeting of a writer’s group I belong to, discussion turned to the current state of social media and places to host our work online. A fellow writer suggested blogs. When I got home, I dug up mine. My last post to it was in 2009.

Since getting the boot from Meta in July I’ve become increasingly disenchanted with my other options, at least the ones I’ve explored (BlueSky, Tik Tok, Discord, Echo, Fam, Fable). They have pros but the cons seem to outweigh them (with the notable exceptions of Fable and Discord).

Of course it all comes down to what you’d like to get out of your interactions online. I like discussions, most of mine have been one-sided. Fable, geared towards readers (and TV viewers) has been the most enjoyable. Lots of users have asked the Admin to incorporate music as a topic. Hopefully, they will.

Fam is a very Tik Tok-like music based app that’s still in development. It could change in time to be more to my liking but at the moment it’s too soon to tell. Echo is also music based but discussion largely centers around music that’s popular in the mainstream which is of next to no interest to me.

In the meantime, I’ve been gathering content for my blog. In addition to the sort of things I’d normally post to social media I’d like it to be a place to host my writing, art, photography, etc. here’s the link: companyikeep.blogspot.com
