Excuse the clunky title, and I know there are other threads for each of these acts already, but I have a feeing there might be some overlap between the two tours. And possibly a few of us on here who will going to see shows from both tours.
According to a Minus 5 Instagram post, Thurston Moore, Bertis Downs, and MICHAEL STIPE!!! were in attendance at the Haines/Buck show in London last night. Shannon/Narducy tour starts on the 19th. Interesting that Stipe and Downs are in the country. Must try not to get hopes up!

I’m just getting soooo excited to see these guys now at The Garage in Highgate, London on the 22nd. I’ve even found a neighbour who wants to come with me and has got herself a ticket- she and her husband both got into REM from Automatic onwards and she has that as well as New Adventures, Monster and Accelerate CDs. I’ve lent her my Fables CD as I have iTunes to sing along to on my phone. Really excited to hear they hope to do LRP next year too! Bring it on!

Well, I went to see Shannon/Narducy last night in Glasgow and it was… AMAZING!!!
If you’re going to see them on this tour, you’re in for a treat. They really do the music justice and it’s just so great hearing these wonderful songs live, and (very!) loud.
Obviously, they played Fables in its entirety. I won’t spoiler it too much, but this was followed by a set of R.E.M. classics, mostly early stuff. I was in my element. Don’t think I’ve enjoyed a gig so much in ages. It was joyous. Go see them if you can.
Bertis Downs was in attendance too!

Yes!! It WAS FANTASTIC! We got to The Garage early so were at the front. Our set list was the whole of Fables plus Velvet Underground’s Waiting for The Man, Bandwagon, Crazy, Perfect Circle, Sitting Still, Let Me In ,New Test Leper, So. Central Rain, Pretty Persuasion, Gardening At Night, (Don’t Go Back To) Rockville ,Cuyahoga (I was in heaven-this was the song I requested (and REM played) for their request tour plus Michael Shannon announced they would be touring with LRP next year- in America-” Booooo!” went the audience- and also over here “Hooray!”) and finally the upcoming re-release of Radio Free Europe (the time IS right as Bertis Downs thinks). I felt like a teenager again and would never have guessed I was capable of pogo-ing at 64!

Not getting America booing over them performing Lifes Rich Pageant next year.
Absolutely not- nor over here- just jokey booing because Michael Shannon was playing with the English audience making us think for a moment that they were ONLY going to be touring with it in America

Yes they are aren’t they- so good that I decided not to post any of my crap videos .I was right at the front but my filming technique is awful- difficult to film straight when you’re prancing up and down- not sure why I bothered….

My confession: the photos were taken by my better half. I only took the one of Bertis. Note the quality difference! My photos were rubbish. Probably because I couldn’t keep my head from bobbing around…

Michael Shannon is the man. Absolutely killed it on stage tonight singing R.E.M. covers. His voice is so much better than I anticipated. Amazing show. Filled with lots of deep, deep cuts. Lots of real R.E.M. fanatics there. I felt right at home.
They did a different arrangement for a couple of songs that were really incredible. So. Central Rain, Let Me In, Strange and World Leader Pretend were standouts.
Although, I think someone should have told Michael Shannon that Ireland is not part of the UK.

I went to see Haines/Buck and Minus 5 last Saturday in Glasgow. Brilliant gig, as expected.
Minus 5 were absolutely fantastic. Lots from the (excellent) new album, as you’d expect, plus some classics like Aw Shit Man and (my favourite Minus 5 song!) I’m Not Bitter. They rocked, and it was nice to see Luke Haines digging it too. I’ve long held the belief that Scott McCaughey might be the most underrated songwriter of his generation. Pretty underrated frontman, too.
Also, the Minus 5 set is the most I’ve ever seen Peter Buck smile at a gig! He looked super-relaxed and like he was loving it. I don’t have any photos of him smiling though. It was like trying to take a photo of my cat…
Anyway, then came the Haines/Buck set. I know Luke Haines is an acquired taste, but I love the Haines/Buck albums. They opened with Pink Floyd Research Group, perhaps the most R.E.M.ish song they’ve done to date. They played a lot off the new album and a few from the first two, before finishing with a brilliant version of Exit Space, the Bowie-esque centrepiece of album two.
To cap it off, I got my photo taken with Linda Pitmon at the end. Great night. Some photos, in an annoyingly random order. A mix of mine and my partner’s. Hers are the good ones…
