I’ve noticed this trend in recent years as well but never felt like I was able to adequately explain it unless talking to fellow music geeks, especially those well versed in alt.country or artists like Waxahatchee that cite everyone from R.E.M. to Drive-By Truckers as influences. Then, there’s the whole MJ Lenderman/Wednesday universe that extends out from there which also encompasses my current favorites, Florry.
