Is it cookery, or is it science?

Inspired by the news article about the lady in New Hampshire, today I tried baking cookies on the dashboard of my car.

Today's experiment was casual, but I plan to set it up more carefully next week.

I parked the car this morning facing east.  At approx 11:30 a.m. I placed dough for 16 mini-sugar cookies  (Pillsbury break-aparts) on a shiny silver pan.  I put the pan on the black dashboard of my car.  I didn't check the outside temperature and didn't have a thermometer, but plan to do both next week.

The cookies were checked every 30 minutes.  The first time, they had melted some and were sitting in little puddles of oil.  The next time, they had hardened a bit on top and at the edges but were raw in the center.   After 2 1/2 hours, I brought the pan inside and removed the cookies to a paper towel to cool.  They were mostly cooked, but, probably because of the long baking time, they were more chewy and less crisp than oven-baked cookies.   They were edible, though.

Next week I'll have a thermometer, will check the outside temp, and will put them in later in the day, after the car has preheated more.  I may try setting up a reflector of some sort and using a dark pan.

I'm just disappointed that the answer to my question as quoted in the title of this thread was no.  :(   :p   I'm glad your cookies were edible though.  Have fun playing with your thermometer next week.

I'm just thrilled that someone else came up with the question rather than me! :D

Is 'playing with your thermometer' pervy talk for something lewd? :p

What, Lydia's a fancy-pantsed-too-good-for-the-likes-of-us-ambulance-chaser, too??
Fucking hell, they're coming out of the woodwork now, aren't they?

No, no, no, meant that I wouldn't be doing the experiment with the thermometer til Monday.  Lydia isn't an ambulance-chaser, she's a civil servant.  She works for The Man, except in England so it'd probably be pronounced "The Mahn".

Why? Your thermometer won't make it into town before then? What?

I'm sorry...did you say 'England', or 'Austria'? :p

'Mahn'??? I hear Schwarzenegger's voice everytime I read that!

My car won't be sitting in a parking lot all day til Monday.  You have to place it in the sun and leave it alone and I need to use it today and tomorrow.

I don't think staying home and relaxing round the pool with some margaritas all day is asking too much in the name of science. ;)

Yeah, but it's actually partly cloudy today and the high isn't supposed to reach 100, so it's not the best condition for cookies-on-the-dashboard experimentation.  I can wait til Monday.

Now I want cookies, and my car just left for OKC.

I once toasted a cheese sandwich on the dashboard... was an accident though.

:D   Did it actually brown?  Cause I'm trying to figure out how to get the cookies to brown.  I'm thinking of using a bit of foil, or a reflective windshield screen, to make a mini-reflector oven..

When the self-confessed owner of an Orgy Palace confides that she’s going to “bake cookies” on her “dashboard” it begs the question whether these are euphemisms for something else.  :p

I reckon it is.  I wonder if she has a nurses outfit?

I don’t know who the hell this “Mahn” is.  I think you’re getting confused with what my mouth does with a ba-nah-na.  :p

Actually I’m kind of tired of having to roll over and take it from The Man.  So I’m thinking of sticking it to him.  Well, more like a withdrawal of services.
