Okay, so maybe my first time is a little more memorable than most users, but I'll never forget this line:

"Holy shit, it's Matthew fucking Wood." - Eric

Thanks for making me feel welcome, Eric. Haven't forgotten. :)

At this time I should also confess that I don't actually have a third nipple. I understand if a few people need time for that to sink in before they speak to me again.

I think this is as good a time as any to mention that my first real memory of Murmurs is that a very regular (in terms of posting, not pooping) member was already named Eric and seeing his/my name all over the board was disconcerting.

And if it's not a nipple...what exactly is it?
Some kind of singing. They sound like all kinds of people, right? And then it says another child is born in India every time you call this number, right? Does that make any sense to you?
And the guy that spoke--I don't know who he is. But that--it doesn't sound like no answering machine, right?

My first time in chat, some guy named Chrispy kept saying "Your wife is a whore" and "Your dick is small and withered" and "You're an asshole". I tried to ignore him and talk to other people, but he just kept going. I just closed the window after about 10 minutes. I haven't been back much since.

Chat was one of the first features I actually utilized in Murmurs. It took me a while, and actually a few years of trying once and then saying fuck it, to figure out how threads and forums worked. So I met some cool people. The Wooder, who is probably one of the best friends I'll ever have, and Sockpuppet, and carroll, and Wingnut, without whom,  I can honestly say my life would not be complete. We may not hit chat anymore, since when it was down we migrated to aim, but the love is still there.

I don't remember the name of the person but she called me a stalker nut case for having a tattoo of Mike. And I try to explain that my having a tattoo does not make me a stalker. Couple of years after that I got a email from her saying she was so sorry about being mean. Seem that she saw me at one of the shows and saw how I was having fun and enjoying being around other fans , shamed her. Hey it is all good no matter what. :D

i was told i roccked the first time i came to chat here, so that was obviously pretty cool! :) my favourite chat experience here was months later than that though, and went down in history as the antti guitar incident. i don't remember the entire conversation, but it went something like that:

moni (about me): well, she... (blah blah blah)
antti: who she?
moni: pete
antti: pete is a GIRL???
me: well, i still was in the shower this morning anyway...
antti: but you play the guitar! that's such a MALE instrument!

i still has me giggling uncontrollably right here, right now... :D

I can't properly remember the exact details of my first chat, but I'm sure it was a few days after I had joined, in late December 2003 - I'm also certain a similar exchange to this happened at least once in chat:

OneArpeggioPete said:

moni: pete
antti: pete is a GIRL???

Obviously with different characters, and, ahem, a different sex :p

I wasn't really a big Murmurs junkie during the days I used to chat, I remember around March 2004 the occasional conversations started to decline, and it wasn't 'til a few weeks later where I started posting lots and lots and became some sort of regular. Still I've got plenty of memories of those chats - in fact, the very last one happened a bit more than a year ago (it was an event planned by the GLR/TEP hosts), and it was a very, very good one.

Matt, we must talk about that nubbin of yours afterwards.

Ok.

My first murmurs chat was with Corey Davidson and Sarah Florez.  This was back in the very special summer of 1999.  All I remember, in content,  is that I guessed what college Sarah was attending, in one try!  I also shamelessly harrassed Corey to play Fables of the Reconstruction in his dormitory after he admitted to liking "Life and How to Live It."

I haven't seen Corey on the boards for years.  I met him during the Toronto stop of the UP tour in 1999, and he was very pleasant, and quite an intellectual prescence.  A fellow Ontario boy he is!  Last I heard, he was living in Calgary.

In chat, there was a kind of grouping of me, Derek and Marc Davis going on, kind of a comedy team.  Marc and I fought over women, Derek would say the most controversial yet hilarious things, Marc would insult me, and I would insult him right back. That sort of thing.  "What, pray tell, is a diary farm?"

There was the infamous "murmurs civil war" and the night when there were about 15 users in the room, and we all decided to become our favourite Star Wars characters for the duration.

I think what's true about Saturday Night Live is also true of murmurs chat.  The first cast members, circa 1999-2000, were truly the best!  :D

I haven't had a first experience in the murmurs chat yet. For some reason, I have never used it. I don't even know why. Maybe because I don't know how it works.

I remember finding a guy who like 4 blocks away in Montreal. I couldn't believe it. I think I never saw him again but thinking now it could have been marc, can't remember.

Also remember the first time I thought for a second if it really was REM in the chat room when I got there.

You could be anyone in the old chat with a quick name change, that was a fun game.

Also, finding people in there at the weirdest times. I remember once finding Eric and Ethan among others late on a Saturday night. Cool place it was.

I rememebr it well *Talks like grandpa*.It was nigh on four months ago (hehehe).I was sat in the chat room, waiting for somebody to talk to me when who should turn up but dear old Murmurs?..There followed a rather suspicious turn of events where I asked it many unanswerable questions in order to break it.They subsequently told me they would take over the world and I would be the first to die.

*sighs*  Good times
