I just saw this the other day and I've already watched it a ton of times. Anybody with the slightest interest in jazz should watch this performance. It's Rashaan Roland Kirk doing his version of "I Say a Little Prayer." It doesn't specify a date, so I can't really answer to that, but Kirk needs to be seen to be believed. I've got a number of his albums and he's easily my favorite jazz saxophone soloist. What was special, and amazing about Kirk was that he was able to play two or three different horns at the same time and harmonize with himself. Just listening to his recordings you'd never know he was the only horn player in the band, but that was usually the case. Seeing it live just makes it that much more incredible. The video starts doing a lot of rapid cuts towards the end, but you're going to be blown away. I highly recommend checking out some of Kirk's albums, but at the very least give this a watch.
edit: He also had a circular breathing technique that basically allowed him to play continuous solos for very long periods of time, which I find pretty much unbelievable.

There is a funny story about this from PiL's manager at the time, on Fodderstompf.com (a great PiL fansite). Apparently, when PiL showed up, Dick Clark asked their manager, (about Lydon), "What is this asshole going to do?..." about their performance, but then years later, during American Bandstand highlights on VH1, while Clark introduced the infamous PiL episode, Clark insists when told Lydon wasn't going to do the "typical American Bandstand routine", Clark replied, "That's fine, it's all part of the act..." Yeah, right!
And yes, Jason, PiL do rule. I'm still waiting for with baited breathe for Lydon's follow-up book on the PiL years. Apparently, he's writing it now. Public Image, Ltd... possibly the most underrated band of the 80's.
Another great PiL moment is Lydon and guitarist at the time Keith Levene on NBC's old Tomorrow Show with Tom Snyder. It's just been released on DVD (only $10!!) and well worth it. Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, and the Ramones are also on the DVD.

David Letterman played this clip for Elton one time while Elton was on Letterman's show promoting in the mid-1990's. The look on Elton's face: Priceless. :*
