What about the Music sub-forums? Kaput?
For a Morrissey-clubbin' good time, visit: http://froggyandwoodman.blogspot.com/ So indie, it's not even marketed outside Murmurs, sucka.

We are condensing.

Music content (music@murmurs) will be in the main site (run on drupal).

Looks much simpler - I think it'll be easier for new and old users to find their way around....

I don't think Meets and Greets should be a subset of Community Matters. When I see Gatherings I immediately think of, well, gathering, and meeting is a gathering. I think it will get lost in Community Matters.

Actually, when it comes down to it, I don't like the label "Gatherings" for what is in it, but I am not sure what else to call it.

I assume "Geeky stuff" is what computers and science is now. Why not just leave it at Computers and Science? "Geeky Stuff" is too subjective.

Dork Inside Edition I assume is much more "Tabloid" oriented?

That's the forum that becomes visible when you subscribe to "droolers", I believe.

I'm sure this is being done for technical reasons, in which case I have no right to object and certainly won't protest. But if this is for organizational purposes, then things in certain forums will just get muddled. In Music, for instance, where I do most of my posting, the Reviews section is collecting dust for the most part and can be dropped. But combining Lists and News and Live will be an eyesore.

I agree. I'll keep lists/live/etc

This is more  high level, some subs will stay.

So would the Tractor Bar remain in "People" or be moved to GLR or TEP?  Please not Chit Chat, because I don't want to have to subscribe to that to see "new posts" for the TBar.

We'd probably stick it into the sub only forum in band members.

If that's what he means, I'm opposed against it then, those two bars hardly share the same theme of Dork Inside Edition - wouldn't it be better to just have them as stickies in the People forum?

I also don't see the Birthdays conference, if we're keeping it, it should be left as a Personal Annoncements subforum, it's worked fine that way.

I agree with keeping Meets and Greets as a subforum, as well as Lists in Music.

Maybe there should be a pub/bar in the gatherings section?

.... maybe that could be one of the sections people could opt out of seeing in their new posts view, etc.  It's not like people who've never been interested in posting in that thread need to keep seeing it in the "new posts".

Those actually belong in Chit Chat, ideally. I know that isn't desired, but they are chit-chat threads, not that there is anything wrong with that.

So...    People who participate in all forums have to look over a list of threads they may not be interested in...  what's wrong with putting the "bar" threads into chit-chat, just because some of the "bar" people don't want to read the other chit-chat stuff?

For music I agree that 'lists' should be kept as a subforum, but I think that music news and reviews, both live and non can all be condensed into the general "music" forum without much of a loss.  In fact, most people don't seem to even acknowledge that those subforums exist anymore, as things get posted interchangeably within all of them anyway.

Some questions...

1) What is Best-Of Murmurs? Will it be for famous thread's like "That Foul Man Bill Berry" and pulaskipoet's greatest hits?!!

2) Does "Travel and Movement" translate into "Maps and Legends??"

3) Will the forums generally keep R.E.M.-related names? e.g. Gastronomique was going to be re-labelled something like A Candy Bar, A Falling Star.

4) Are we eliminating the Polls sub-sub-forum from Pop Songs?

Some observations...

1) Media and Lifestyle are MUCH better names than Inward and Outward

2) Fantastic condensing of good and purging of crap

You're being contradictory because if they participate in ALL forums then they ALWAYS see a number of threads under new posts that may not be of interest to them!

And as the TB is just ONE of those threads you don't want to read it's got to be moved to CC?

....I was just asking, Werner, it's nothing personal!

Either way, I do think it'd be nice to have the "bar" threads as something we could opt out of seeing. There's other threads than TB, as well, I think.  I don't really care whether they get put in chit-chat or not. Besides, what's wrong with chit-chat, when it's a chit-chat type thread?
