Hi :) I was just wondering, does anyone know how many brothers/sisters Michael has? I don't wanna know any personal details or anything like that, just how many. I read somewhere that he has 2 sisters, but does he have any brothers?? Just curious...

He has two younger sisters, Lynda and Cyndy.  Lynda was in the 80s bands Oh-OK and Hetch Hetchy, and co-wrote "Bandwagon" on "Dead Letter Office."

I don't know if Cyndy ever performed.

He has no brothers.

Michael does not have a brother. Also he is the middle child, I believe that Cyndy is the oldest and Lynda is the youngest.

Here's an interview with her:

http://www.furious.c...lyndastipe.html

PSF: Around that time, your brother had settled into R.E.M.. Was that encouraging to you to see him do well with his band?

Sure. I was there for the very first show, which was down at the church. He used to take me out, like he did in mid-America, to the parties. He would pick me up at Burger King in my uniform and take me out. It was real exciting and was fun.

hmmm... i thought he had a brother... at the concert i went to I thought he said something about dedicating The Outsiders to his brother who had died 11 years before... I'll have to go listen to it again.

Maybe it was a figurative ''Brother'', a close friend or somthing?

I'd love to hear some of Lynda's music. Has anyone heard it?

We have a signed copy of FTBT "Glo" that we got at the 40 watt that night. It's difficult for me to really compare them to any other band, but here's a couple of reviews:

Also, as far as the original question is concerned, there's another thread here:

Aw, that's so sweet! It prolly is a close friend he's talking about and that's who I heard him talk about to. I can't remember where I heard him say it though.

I think he was probably talking about River Phoenix, who died in 1993, because I've read interviews where he referred to him as the brother he never had.

I have heard a bootleg of the Atlantic City show. That show was on Oct 30th and River Phoenix died on Oct 30 1993.  So that is who Michael was talking about.  He once said that River was like the little brother he never had.  He's close to all of the Phoenix family, especially Rain who was singing with Angela McCluskey on stage.

I used to play cello too, as well as viola. It was easier for me to switch, shift, and transpose music between the two instruments than any other instruments. I'm totally rusty on either instrument now. Never fiddled with the fiddle or the string bass, but if I had to choose, I would explore the string bass.
