Fill me in here, what's the lowdown on "Shine"? I've never heard of this before, I guess it's not in general circulation. Does it really exist, and if it does why isn't it being circulated in the usual way?

Sorry to get all serious on your asses.

As far as I know, only ethank has a copy. so itīs not in circulation.
it came up around the same time as fascinating, the other reveal outtake (which we all know). (as far as i remember).
since then itīs a little mistery on this board...  :)
But know it seems that there are at least 3 people having it. I wonder if the band would allow us to hear this song or might want to save it for a future release (box set?).
Who knows...
It still believe weīll hear it one day, as well as the Automatic and Up Demos (which are also out there somewhere) and the soundboard show including the Soundcheck from Prague 1995....
*dreams on*  :D

I have it, and a handful number of people have it now. It's a 4min+ jangly instrumental that sounds like something from the OOT era.

Are you serious? How did you get it? And most importantly, how can I get it?

No its just an instrumental.

Its just the most hyped about song on the planet and for no reason whatsoever.

I have heard better elevator music.

OK...
Seems like I was waiting for nothing... the last 3 years...

BTW: Does anyone have a tracklist for the Automatic and Up demos?
Iīve had one, a great REM trader posted it on sharingthegroove.org back in the days, but I canīt find it.
All i remember was Hope being called Boomerang, Man On The Moon was C-Slide. There were also 2 different versions of Lotus and At my most beautiful and it had 2 CDīs.
Automatic had "The devil rides backwards..."
The guy said he got them from someone close to the band, best quality, but heīs not allowed to share. I believe him, as he posted some other stuff that wasnīt shared before. Also, somebody else said he heard of the same tracklist.
And, letīs bring some light to all those myths, what about this often rumored Prague 95 show, anybody ever got his hands on that one?

People have been sharing so stop with the misconception that nobody is.

Just because it is not on Murmurs does not mean that this is not available. There are other REM Trading sites out there.

Um, at least a number of Up demos are out there. I got those quite a few years ago. I can't remember exactly which songs were on there, but it was maybe six or seven tracks in total. Most not to far off from the album versions.

I have never seen a tracklist myself. There is a difference between what I think you are talking about and what David is referring to. There are about 5 or 6 demos that were shared years ago and probably still are which were more of the skeletal versions of hte songs.

There was another version of Up Outtakes that was about 95% mixed with different mixes of Lotus, Walk Unafraid as well as a couple other changes here and there. I have details somewhere. I would not consider it a 2 disc album but just two discs of material. Some songs had more than one mix.

Devil Rides Backwards was an Automatic Demo, as well as a version of Photograph with only Stipe Singing on it. Also Man on the Moon was much more complete than what the band has alluded to all these years as a late addition. From what i understand many of the lyrics had been written for the song much earlier than the band led on to believe.
