This is a silly thread.
I know that being an R.E.M. fan can make us a little crazy but let's keep a grip on reality.
Marijane is suffering from delusions and wants to suck us all into her game.
I'm not playing anymore.

Are you serious, this wouldn't really ruin their music career. Would it? I think your wrong after all it's not plagerisism if I don't dispute it, right. It was to him anyways and the way he used it means that he knew this and was respectful of my writings.
it doesnt matter if you dispute it or not, its plagarism. He copied words from your poem to his songs and made millions off of them. Thats plagarism.
plagiarism
n 1: a piece of writing that has been copied from someone else and is presented as being your own work 2: the act of plagiarizing; taking someone's words or ideas as if they were your own
By posting this you are making a claim that he copied off of you. Thats a serious charge.
And yes it would definitely ruin their career if there was any proof which there isnt because you are a psychopath.

Why does everyone think I am making this up. It does suck. I guess I wish I would've made a copy. But how did I know that Michael would do this. I can't see ahead into the future.
Okay, so you didn't have a copy it, and yet, five years later you just recited it word for word? Thats pretty frickin amazing if you ask me! I can't remember all the stuff I wrote in a letter I composed at work today, let alone anything I wrote five years ago without having a copy to re-read.
And how did the security thing work? You contacted him ahead of time, and spoke to him personally, to see if he would be able to do you a favor at the show? Of course he would, because you pleaded, and running security on a large concert isn't enough work to begin with than to deal with pleading fans. And then, you were able to find him AGAIN at the concert, and he remembered he spoke to you, took your letter, and immediately personally delivered it to Michael Stipe, so he could then emerge into a lingering crowd (a dangerous situation for a famous person, and one that such a seasoned musician would not throw himself into) to find the person who wrote the letter that he was handed, and then read immediately? Don't you see how absurd that sounds?
Well, whatever. After all, I personally wrote the lyrics for and composed all the songs for Chronic Town when I was 3.

You are right and I am sorry.
But is there anyone that kick these freaks off this site? Why do we have to put up with this mess over and over and over?
Its like they are all popping out of the woodwork.

whatever your all crazy. Sad you don't believe it. By the way Michael didn't emerge himself into the crowd to ask about the letter, he was behind the security gate. I wonder where Ethan is because he was there and if he remembers from back then, he'll know there was me(this girl) that wrote Michael a letter. He has to remember that Michael came out from behind the gate for a minute, inquiring about a letter.

But you said you never saw Michael. What proof do you have that he ever read your letter? Did he write you back and say hey I read your letter. Michael coming out, asking who gave him a letter. Not realistic. He rarely greets fans after the concerts when they leave the venue.
You've been on this board for two years. Suddenly after you posted your other thread: Does Michael use other peoples poems or lyrics for songs? You decide to post this story. And you actually really thought that everyone would believe it.
Things like this sometimes winds up in court when someone makes a claim that someone stole my poem or that song sounds like one I wrote 2 years before theirs came out.
I look at stuff like this and than I realize how much of a loyal fan I am as well as others around here at murmurs. We buy their albums, dvd's, go see them live, collect photos, etc. That's it. And try and meet new friends who are fans.
The band welcome fanmail when they are not on tour. That mail should all be sent to the fanclub. The guys do get some of their fanmail. Michael in the past has answered some fan letters, but no longer does because well I can't imagine how he'd have the time.

Marijane, e-mail or pm Ethan and ask him to back you up on this. If you're telling us the truth I'm sure Ethan will be happy to say so. OK?

i believe her.
back in 86, i saw michael, he was just at the local corner shop. i was waiting behind him in line. i said to him, "hello."
i guess that inspired him to write "pop song 89". but i'm not going to sue him either, he knows i love him.

grabbed me up by the scruff of my neck,
shook me down to the floor
through my shoes, to the floor
to the core of the earth.
i muttered something, swallowed some air;
science, miracles, monkeys, a prayer.
i'll believe in anything when i'm there.
i'm certain i've said that before.

Ya I know about my earlier thread. I wrote that because I wanted to see if anyone else knew about this in any way and at the time I didn't want to reveal that I wrote him this poem, I've been feeling more ill these past couple days, and i don't know what's going to happen to me; i've just enough guts right now to finally speak out about this. Before I was scared to say anything beacuse I don't want to hurt Michael or REM.

No Denise, Michael was asking about the letter before the concert started. And
either believe me ont his part or not because I am just about done with this.
The head of security guy I talked to was really sweet to me, he said he would give Michael a letter for me, so i know this sounds a bit stupid but then know I am not making this up;because I could certainly lie alot better about this part if I was lying; So I told the security guy thanks but I actually don't have a letter already written so would it be ok if I went and wrote it out and I could find him again later to give to him. And he said yes, if I could find him. so that's what I did , I wrote it, found him, and he went to get it to Michael for me. I asked him if he could come back after and tell me if he gave it to him or not and that I would be waiting right here on the other side of the security gate. He said he would, so I waited, he came back and he said that he had placed it in Michaels dressing room on his desk because he knocked on the door and he didn't answer; he said he must've been in the bathroom at the time so he just placed it in the middle of his desk where he would see it.

Well i am done. Too bad I can't tell you all about something that happened to me on here earlier today. Only if you guys knew the whole truth. A special encounter..Too bad.
Michael if you see this, I would hope that you could set everyone straight, for my reputations sake. Everyone thinks that I'm a delousional lier because I am sick, well no it is because I am really sick and I might leave this earth soon in a not so pleasant way and I just wanted the world to remember me by a writing that I created, too bad it was made public in that way I guess because no one believes me and I don't know if Michael would admit it, so if I do pass on then I guess I'll just be the crazy girl who made up a story about Michael using her poem.

well since I don't know what's coming next.
here's one of my writings.
unbreakable metal, embracing them
you didn't know how long this would take
your unable to gain a step,
keeping balance is left unsaid.
You were caught in time, you could change the sky,
ocean deep following, you could change the light
take alook at the other day,
and let me know what you think,
don't rearrange my display,
pictures I have hung leave it all the same

wow, all I can say is it must really suck to be famous sometimes, or most of the time. People are SOOO obsessed, it's freaky. It must be hard to trust people sometimes, because you never know what their intentions are.

Nevermind then, I hope there's no harm done to you Michael, no one believes me anyway. You'll be ok, I just hope you understand me, I know you do from when we talked earlier. I am sorry about this, my mouth is shut, I didn't know that they were going to turn this into a big circus. :( :( :(
But I really am sick; thanks for your best wishes, I will try my hardest to pull through this, so I can continue on with my goals.

I don't know if the incident you said is true or not but this is a very grave claim you are doing here and you can be sued for libel. I think the band has been generous to people and fellow artists by giving song credits even if the songs is remotely similar just like in Hope.
Your intention might be good in telling this story but you can pretty much sure that people will challenge you when you do a serious claim like this.
