Thank you, Lilytooth; that's really lovely. Today is the one-month anniversary of Jessica's death.

Jess had a gift with words, she could make her reader feel the exact way she intended. And one day I told her that I'd 'lost my poetry', that I hadn't written for quite awhile, and she told me just to write, because it didn't have to make sense or be beautiful or even be for anyone else, just write. So now, every time I write a poem, I think of Jess.

Every time I even READ a poem I think of her.
And I've found a stash of her lyrics that she wrote a few years ago. She typed them on the computer and printed them. I'm still looking for the handwritten notebook anyway. After I've read all the lyrics I may post some.
I love reading about the many ways Jessica touched lives, and about the many ways she is remembered.

Yesterday the Environmental Club at the high school where I work (and from which Jessica graduated) planted a little peach tree in her memory. It's right outside my library windows where I can watch it grow and will be able to enjoy the blossoms next spring. It was a very thoughtful gesture. They asked me what kind of tree Jessica liked and I thought of her enjoying fresh peaches in Athens and knew that a peach tree would be perfect.

You don't have to thank me but I appreciate it. I didn't know her well, but she brought a ray of sunshine to us all even in our darkest hours. She was a shining light when all around was dark. What a special spirit she was. I am grateful I knew her even just a little bit.
I think of her often and hope she is at peace even when we aren't ready yet to accept her passing.

Keeper Of The Smiles :)
(In Memory Of Our Friend Jessica)
We miss you every day, dear Jess -
I still can't believe you're really gone
Passing time won't make us feel our sadness any less
I think of you each time I hear your song
Oh - I was proud to know you, our Keeper of the Smiles -
Club Author of Bill Poems, you were our friend
And though your profile said you were 'Keeper of the Tambourines'
We’ll keep you in our smiles until the end
Now we watch over you with a bright and colourful Boa Tree
It stands guard like a sentinel, proud and tall
We remember our times here with you, our cheerful boas flying free:
Their happy smiles now give some comfort to us all
And I was proud to know you, our Keeper of the Smiles -
Club Author of Bill Poems, you were our friend
And though your profile said you were 'Keeper of the Tambourines'
You're in our smiles, where your memory'll never end
There's all the colours of the rainbow flying high upon your tree
Jess, I bet you'd like it - soaring up to the sky
And you'd want us all to smile, even through our misery
'Cause all its colours just get blurred each time we cry
Yes, I am proud to have known you, our Keeper of the Smiles -
Club Author of Bill Poems, you are our friend
And though your profile said you were 'Keeper of the Tambourines'
We'll remember you, with our smiles, until the end

Oh Georgia, it's beautiful! You're so good with words. I still can't believe she's gone either; I expect her to come downstairs on Saturday morning and turn on cartoons and demand breakfast; I expect her to be waiting when I get home from school in the afternoons, wanting to go to Barnes and Noble for yet another book. And I think when her dad comes home from work in the evening, he still expects her to be on the couch watching TV for the latest news on Michael Jackson's trial. Everything reminds us of her still. But we're getting better. I appreciate your words, which remind us to be brave and to smile, just like our dear Jess. Thank you so much for being our friend.

Thats a really lovely poem Georgia.
I feel proud to have known Jess too, and really honoured that I became one of her friends. Not a single day passes without thoughts and memories of her coming into my mind. It's still so very hard and difficult to have to accept the fact that she wont visit here again.
The boa tree is beautiful Lucy, Jess would absolutely love it, thanks so much for showing it to us.

a lil didy fer Jess
she she had another dream
of r.e.m. & cheese
sitting by a tree
thinking up possiblities
the mountains she climbed
the vallies she dared
she returned to the sky
by way of wind & flight
not stairs
and chuckles on the phone saying
where have you been?
i been looking for you
wind chimes & the time to send
letters of her time
coming by wind and a sign
feeling fine
all the time
coming by song forever
she's been remembered
Jessica's shine
returns to the sky
waving hi
in the wind of her boa shrine
she she had another dream
of r.e.m. & cheese
sitting by a tree

Today Zannah and I went out and replaced the boas with new ones. The first ones had faded and were lovely pastels now, but we felt the need for bright colors. We found some really fluffy boas in bright pink, green, and orange, and we know Jessica would love them.
I'm trying to decide where to post some of Jessica's song lyrics. I think making a website would be the best idea, but am not sure how to go about finding hosting.
Thank you to the Murmursian friends who have been PMing me; your continued support is appreciated very much.

I thought some of Jessica's friends here might like to read the messages delivered by family members at her funeral. This first one is from a 32-year-old cousin, Missy:
I went to visit Jessica's family the day after her passing, and obviously, there were
little glimpses of her everywhere in their home. Her pictures, DB the teddy bear, her shoes... all kinds of things. But, the one thing that really struck me was something I saw on their refrigerator, written in those little word magnets that you can change around. It went
something like this: "love the crusty boaches puny cod piece of nature."
As I began to ponder this strangely profound refrigerator masterpiece,
I noticed that not far from there was a picture of my one year old daughter with her own word magnet. That one simply said "beautiful".
A flood of emotions washed over me as I remembered what a fascinating person Jessica was. A complicated young woman with an edgy & childlike exterior, boldly expressed by this "poetic" statement on the fridge. The contrasts of these two thoughts of Jessica's really amplified her simpler inner self, that also happened to be "beautiful".
We will miss you dear Jessica.

It's strange how I hardly knew her yet I think of her daily. And want the family to know that she is not forgotten.
