Hello
Hey,
Do you go to the Moby boards as well? I have AIM as well, I already added you on my buddy list. I hope that we can talk, and that it will be ok if it were profound talking. And just general "How do you do?"s. Maybe we could become friends.
Jessica
------------------------------------------------------------
That was the first real PM I ever got, and we did become friends. Probably would have been better friends if had went on AIM more often when she was online. But we had cool converstaions anyway. I felt bad about her problems, at least now shes at peace. Hope shes in a better place. Maybe I'll get to see her there in a while.
Bye Jessica.

Why Not Smile?
All of Jessica's Bill Poet buddies will have such fond, happy memories of the times we shared with Jessica.
The Poem Room (as Jessica and Helen’s epic thread became known) was a haven of happy dances and twirls, boa-shimmying and laughter (… and, not to forget – oh yes – our most Pulitzer-worthy Bill Poems!) I'll treasure the Anthology we all made so proudly with Jessica and her mum Lucy.
We often found ways to make each other smile, and remembering the times we shared together with Jessica will always continue to make me smile.
Jessica's chosen user-name here at Murmurs often intrigued me. I was fascinated: perhaps Why Not Smile? was simply Jessica's favourite REM tune at the time she registered? Or perhaps it had become a life-motto, of sorts – an unwavering optimism, a defiant cheerfulness in the face of life's slings and arrows?
As my time here at Murmurs went by, I came to learn that Jessica had perhaps a few more of life's burdens to shoulder than most of us. And that made me admire her infectious, passionate optimism even more.
"Keep smiling and the world will smile back and seem beautiful," Jessica wrote, in one of the PMs posted above in this thread.
---> Jessica: I'll try to smile for you this afternoon, though I won't much feel like it. But - as perhaps you yourself came to realize - the alternative is just too sad to bear.
So I'll smile – indeed, why not?
Keep smiling Jessica, our Haiku Honeypot friend :) We'll miss you :*
Smile, tho' your heart is aching,
Smile, even tho' it's breaking,
When there are clouds in the sky
You'll get by,
If you smile
Thro' your fear and sorrow,
Smile, and maybe tomorrow,
You'll see the sun come shining thro'
For you
Light up your face with gladness,
Hide ev-'ry trace of sadness,
Al -'tho a tear may be ever so near,
That's the time,
You must keep on trying,
Smile, what's the use of crying,
You'll find that life is still worth-while,
If you just smile.

Jess always made me say what I feel. She just kept on tickling until I tried to find words. I have never been good at that, but the way she asked things in her pms and in chat I had to answer even if it was difficult, as letting people get closer is something that always terrified me.
But what could one do if someone so open and honest reaches out for you? Tell her to go away, I dont talk private things? Jess taught me to open up at least once in a while, to show the things I do and not hide them in the cupboard like I used to.
I still know how extremely honoured I felt when she asked me the first time not only to make her that avatar but gave me her password so I could install it for her while she was away. And then when she asked me to change it about a year later she was so amazed when I said that of course I didnt know her password anymore, and that I thought she had changed it after that anyway. She never gave that a second thought, she just trusted me.
And like she actually asked me for my opinion on things that troubled her. A lot of people tell you that they have problems, but very seldom they really want an opinion. Jessi really wanted to know what other people felt about it.
It was things like that made me open up more and get to know other people.
And here I am again, at a loss of words.
Jessi, I just miss you tremendously.

I met Jessica for the first time at moby.com when she contacted me after I posted a few times in her thread.
This was her message to me more than a year ago:
You're a sweetheart. Do you have any messangers? I have MSN,ICQ,Yahoo,AIM...Do you have any messangers so we can talk? I'd really like to talk to you. Again, you're a sweetheart.
Jessica
That was something else. Someone calling me sweetheart. From that point on we started talking in her thread and Pm-ing each other and I grew to like her and yes to love her. I remember I did not put her on MSN because when she wanted to chat with me I was fast alseep because of the timedifference. But many times I logged in at moby at five o'clock in the morning when I could not sleep and than we started chatting in and out of her thread.
She and my other buddy helped me to get to know R.E.M.
R.E.M was one of the favourite bands of my beloved brother who passed some time ago. And a few years after his death I felt more and more the need to listen to R.E.M. Indeed some of their songs are a great comfort to me.
So I let Jessica recommend me some albums and I asked who is that man with you on the famous Peter Buck photo (now I know
:o ). But most of all we taked and I came to know her. Her love for her sister and mother, how she struggled with her physical and psychological problems but kept on fighting and giving love. I knew she wrote poetry but not about the Bill poems.
When I finally got the courage to register here she welcomed me with open arms.
Apart from R.E.M I know that she also loved Moby very much (she was so glad for me when I met him last summer) and Moby posted this on his website when he heard that she had died (I just want to share it with you):
jessica kubo, a board member, died 2 days ago.
i knew Jessica and i knew her to be a very thoughtful, very sensitive, very special woman.
this is sad news, but my deepest hope is that she's at peace now.
moby
I was so happy that she finally got to see the band and touch Michael.
My time to chat with Jessica on these boards has been cut short last saturday.
But every time I will come here I will remember her. And I know that one day I will meet her wherever she may be.
Ann:jms: :buck: :mike: :bill: :* :* :*
I just want to add that you people at murmurs are wonderful.

Dear Murmurs friends, many of you have said that you were thinking of Jessica Thursday afternoon, so I want to tell you a little about her funeral.
As people gathered in the church, the music playing was R.E.M., Moby, and Ben Lee. Not your normal funeral music at all, but just what Jessica would have wanted. She always insisted that everyone around her should listen to her music. We had "So. Central Rain", "Sitting Still" (she loved it when they played it at the concert last fall), "Maps and Legends", "Good Advices", "Find the River", & "Talk about the Passion" (to represent her passionate approach to life). From Moby we had "We are all Made of Stars", and her favorite Ben Lee song was "Chills". Family members spoke about Jessica and shared our love stories and memories.
Then we had a PowerPoint slide show of pictures of her life. Maybe it was too long, but I loved every second of it, and it helped people know her better. During the show, we played "At My Most Beautiful", "Camera", and "Why Not Smile?".
Next the pastor read messages from her friends here at Murmurs. We have some really eloquent voices among us here. The pastor then read some passages that Jessica had highlighted in her Bible. Finally, one of my high school students sang a beautiful song called "To Where You Are." It's a Josh Groban song and Jess didn't care for him, but she adored the young man who sang, and the song was just beautiful. I know she would have been thrilled to have this young man sing it for her.
There were about 140 people there, and I know that many more were present in spirit. There were flowers from Murmurs (I'm not sure who sent them, but thank you all) as well as from some individual Murmursians.
Last Thursday Jessica was talking to her uncle and saying that she was just sick of having seizures. She wanted to get a job, go to school, drive a car, have a life. Now her spirit is free, soaring, unburdened. We'll miss her forever, but know that now she can truly, finally, walk unafraid.

Thank you for posting the funeral info. I am sorry I could not be there but I am sure it was beautiful. May you rest in Peace Dear Jessica.
I am glad that you played her favorite music. I think she would have been able to hear it wherever she is now. I hope her demons plague her no longer.

Lucy, thank you for sharing this. If so many of us couldn't be there in actual physical presence, we were there in our thoughts. It sounds like a very moving gathering and one Jessica would have loved.

I can't even find words, you know, to say what I want to.
Jess was an energy force, someone who made me think and try to understand points of view that I normally wouldn't even look at. Jess was always trying to get everybody to at least understand what she meant, even if they didn't agree. She believed in peace and harmony, never deliberately stirred up trouble, and had a great friendly nature. I'm glad I got to be a murmursian friend of hers, she gave so much to me as a person.
Thank you, Jess, and {{{hugs}}} forever.

I never had the opportunity to chat/Pm with Jessica, and it shows that i only know a small number of people at this board, and reading all the comments people have had to say about Jessica i can only think that i lost out in meeting a good hearted person.
