As the band she loved so much calls it quits, of course Jessica is on my mind.  If she were still alive, would she still have been so obsessed?  I think probably so.  With each new album in the last seven years, I've wondered what she would have thought of them. Reveal was her last new album. She loved Imitation of Life.

I've said before that I don't know how to express myself in this thread, but something about this made me very sad.  Hugs, thoughts as always.

Jessica visited me in Athens. She was a hard core REM fan. She would tell anyone who would listen. This is considered to be very gauche behavior down in Athens ---- if you ever saw the movie "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" you probably caught the flavor of this very Southern attitude. Oh yes, tourist, we have ghosts and Civil War legends and rock stars. Now, what do you want for lunch? (We are quite nonchalant.)

Jessica was childlike and open. Life never got a chance to knock the wind out of her sails. I was so sad to hear of her passing.

On one of our visits to Athens she was wearing an R.E.M. shirt when we arrived, and I noticed that in the restaurant she tried to hide it behind her menu.  I think by then she had realized that it was "not cool".    She was indeed very childlike in many ways.

I think it was cool that Jessica wore her R.E.M. shirt in Athens.   I wore one or two when I was there.  In Athens you don't have to hide your love for R.E.M.  I found that people I came across were quick to offer information without you even asking for it.  Such as which bars are the guys favorite ones and the streets they live on.

I was also wondering how Jessica would feel about the break up.  I think she would of still been a huge fan.  I wish she was still here.

The hickory trees near a certain beloved farm have a color somewhat like the color of this script, but much lovelier with the bright clear crisp sunlight shining through them....alight from the brightness of Jessica.

I wish she were still here too. It's so hard to believe she would be turning 30 next month.

We are thankful for the 22 years we shared with our Jessica, and for the friends we made through her.  You are a blessing to us, dear AthensFriend.

Thank you for remembering my girl, Helen, Larry, and Renee.  I treasure my memories of the great times on Murmurs, all the Bill poems, and especially her first R.E.M. concert.  You were all good friends and positive influences for her.

Dear Jessica,  On this Saint Valentine's Day, we remember how sweet and loving you were. You had a place in your heart for those who were sad and lonely. You reached out to them and showed them a rare kindness. You will always be remembered and will always be in our prayers. Thank you for your sincere and thoughtful friendship. You bless us every day.

Today I choose to remember fun times I had with Jessica:

teasing her about liking Soul Asylum and their song rhyming "urinal" with "funeral"

going with her to a Hole concert, the only concert where I've been scanned by a metal detector as well as having my bag searched

many nights spent at Barnes and Noble

caramel mocha frappuccinos

Oh lordie, the dances she and her sister made up, especially their Spice Girls dance

Eight years cannot dim the memories.

Bravo.

Going to a Hole concert is the kind of sacrifice a parent makes!

Love to all.

Jessica, in her e-mails to us, would nightly lift us up with her tenderheart and bright sense of humor. Jessica would tenderly present to us  moments clarifying joy and friendship.  Jessica's incisive words still hold a lot of lessons for us. Jessica, we miss you and love you, Renee and Larry

Those 8 years went so fast.  I miss the chats we use to have about how much Michael inspired her.  She asked me a few times if I thought Michael would like her if she were to have a chance to meet him.  I told her of course he would.
