well, i wish the chap who wrote 'it crawled from the south' would do an update.  that book is so well written and comprehensive.  they should just issue a little companion volume so one doesn't have to trawl again through the same stuff that's already been written about a dozen times before...

so much is the same, but each book seems to have a little different info in it.  talk about the passion was good too.  it was easier reading all those different remarks from different people, not just the same basic stuff.

The chap (Marcus Gray) wrote an article on Mojo where he claimed REM were breaking up. REM were none to pleased, so I doubt they'd grant further interviews.

Yeah, I remember that. It was almost like he wanted them to break up. Maybe he thought that would sell a few more copies of his book or something.

Further interviews? I don't think Marcus ever interviewed the band directly, he was just good at putting the information together from various sources into the book.

Are you talking about the Book from Tim Abbott and Rob Jovanovic ???
Yeah, I can´t wait to get it. Tim is a friend of mine (one of my "oldest" R.E.M. friends) and I´m pretty sure that he and Rob did a good job. I´ll give him a call and ask him for more details.

theres also this 'book in progress' - 'dance this mess around'

it must be like a book on the whole athens scene , like that one 'party out of bounds' or something .

i just wonder how different this tim abbott book will be to 'it crawled from the south'

hello

i'm one of the guys (rob) that wrote the forthcoming r.e.m. tome
'adventures in hi-fi '

i don't think any fans will be disappointed by it. tim and i are both long time fans, i've been following them for 16+ years.

i won't give too much away here 'cos i know ethan has some things planned in the run up to publication (nov 2001)
but i'll just say that we approached it as fans and created (in theory) the r.e.m. book that we had always wanted - so hopefully y'all will like it!

someone mentioned not wanting to read all that had already gone into 'it crawled from the south' (a book which tim and i both helped with) again, well even the early stuff has some twists and turns, hopefully you'll agree that we did our homework.
plus the updated version of that was 6 years ago.

also we have 200+ illustrations many of which are rare, and at least some that have never before been seen - anywhere!

hope thats whetted your appetites

keep checking back to murmurs.com in the coming weeks for more news,

cheers

Thanks so much for the reply.  I can't wait to get it.  Not that i am illiterate , at least not totally, but I am glad to hear about the pictures.  most of the books have very few.  Since this will have updated info that will make it even better.  Thanks again.

the publishers are orion in the uk - i'm not sure about overseas versions but the uk edition will be exported in high volumes i'm sure!

orion also did the recent beatles anthology book and will the r.e.m. one won't be so grand you can see that they make a good job of things.

Marcus has already done one update of 'It Crawled From The South'.  I'd be suprised if he'd willingly do another update as the original was a prolonged and painful birth; I'm biased but his book is the best so fingers crossed.

Did the band give interviews for the second edition of 'ICFTS'? They most definately didn't for the first edition'
