So it must be 2009 everywhere in the world now right? So how is everyone feeling today? Any hangovers?

I enjoyed my NYE for the first time in a while. Tanya and I went to a pub after work in North Sydney (which was quieter than I expected). We watched the 9 pm fireworks from the park right next to the Sydney Harbour bridge. They always do a good fireworks display on Sydney harbour. Went home after those because you see one firework display, you sen em all. Had midnight at home.

Although I did see two guys get into a punch up over a spot they both wanted to sit at when watching the fireworks. These weren't teenagers either. "Adult" men with kids with them. Oh dear.

Happy New Year! Looks like you all had fun. I had to leave New York City on New Year's Eve, but I'm glad I didn't stay! It was dreadfully cold and was snowing when I left.

So I am doing a later shift at work this month. 2pm-10pm and I hate it. It's still as busy as my usual 9-5 but I don't get to see my fiance or go out after work.

On the plus side, I'm only doing 4 days this week. On Friday, I'm flying to the North Coast for my sisters wedding. I am looking forward to the wedding of course, but more than that I am looking forward to the rest and relaxation. I have not been away from work in over a year.

I'm sorry you have to work so late. My job has been scheduling me to work until close, and I HATE it. I make so many mistakes, and they think because I'm married I don't ever need a Friday or Saturday night off. Grr!

I think you could call in to work and say you missed your plane and are stranded down on the North Coast for another week... ;)

That would be nice! It is a beautiful day here in Sydney. 30 degrees, not a cloud in the sky, cricket on in the city, boats in the harbour and here I am at work. Good news though, when I got to work I was told that my department no longer needs to work so late and tomorrow I will start 12-8 pm. Not a big change but still better than what I had.

We have the first snow here since - let me think - 3 years I guess  It isn't that cold anymore but still freezing. And after reading Marks's last post I wanna go to Sydney right now. Sun, warmth, beach and party sounds much better than snow, cold and work :p

And just to rub it in, it has been an average temp of 32c all week, no clouds on a blue sky. I am really praying this weekend's weather stays this good.

That does sound better, at least. I'm glad for the change.

My more experienced coworker told me yesterday that I will not get as many hours as spring and summer draw near. Whew! I didn't want this to take up every spare moment of my time!

It's freezing here. They are gritting all the roads cos of the ice, which means my car is permanently encased in white salt yuck, bah. Dread to think what the electric bill will turn out as, we don't have central heating, just a little fan heater *brrr*

I have to write two 5000 word essays in the next month, which explains the procrastination on here.

hello everyone! :) havent been able to write much in last couple of weeks but the holiday at my parents' was just stressing. and i cant even call it holiday, given that i've spent the 90% of the time closed in a room, studying. i had my first university exam (it was a pretty complicated geography thing but i managed to succeed:)) and now i'm studying for next one, which is about my fave subject of this semester, greek archeology.
i've re-gained my calm as soon as i came back in Pisa. the city is gorgeous as ever, sun and blue sky, colorful river, and it's not even that cold as i expected. just one thing is bothering me, that i have a great desire of painting and drawing but i have no time. i was planning some sketching for yesterday evening but i got stuck on the greek painting paragraph on my book. my current canvas stands there in the corner, incomplete. tonight, i will draw something, or i'll explode.

hope everything is going good for everyone else :)

Nipped into the travel agents on the way home from uni today and got a whole pile of brochures - not sure we can afford a holiday just yet, but its nice daydreaming!

First essay is coming along ok, not feeling v well though, and the tablets that are supposed to help are just making me tired and a bit weepy; doesn't encourage me to concentrate for any length of time.

*waves at Chiara* Glad you're having a good time! :) Hope the revising and so on goes well. Happy Tuesday to everyone else.:p

Claire I'm sure you'll find some place for a wonderful holiday which isn't too expensive.

I booked a trip to Crete today :D Again :o:p:rolleyes: Klaus and I love the island and we haven't seen not even 10 % of it last time. Therefore we decided to go there again next september. Since we both don't like those crowded places and huge hotels with thousands of people I looked for a small one. I've found it in a tiny village in the very south of Crete. Since we'll have a car it doesn't matter that there are only mountains (and the ocean ;)) around. The main thing for us was: quietness, sun, heat, good food and red wine and a good area for hiking and a beach for having a bath in the sea here and then.

@ Chiara: So no ruins this time ;) :p

Crete sounds like a great place to visit.
I'll be lucky to see anyplace other than this town in the immediate future. :(

You know in Crete you can find ruins everywhere you go. So, I guess I can force Klaus to have a look of some of them ;) But we'll definetely won't go to the big archeological sites again.

Yes Crete is beautiful. I wanted to go there since years but my ex wasn't interested in ruins, dust and heat and he was disabled, too. This made hiking nearly impossible. It wasn't a big deal for me but now I wanna see it all and make my dreams come true.

It's so sad that travelling is more expensive these days than it was in the 70s and 80s. It's nearly impossible to find cheap places to sleep or cheap restaurants for food :( A friend of mine traveled Europe in the 70s and 80s much and she told me she has found accommodation in Greece or Spain for 5 $ a night - breakfast included  Today you can't find a place under 80 $ or more :( This makes it impossible to travel for people with less money even when the flights are cheaper.

The income of the people doesn't increases in the same way as the costs do. So, there's no money left for the nice things of life :(

Just got back from a weekend away. I was away from work and Sydney for 5 days but it feels so much longer.

Went to a place called Kingscliff just below the gold coast. My sister had her wedding at Peppers Salt spa resort, so all the guests stayed there.
It was so relaxing. I can't remember the last time I spent five consecutive days doing nothing! Two pools, a beach that was perfect, bars every way you turned, seafood that was so fresh 9actually all the food was excellent).
It was hard to come back! Got photos up on facebook but I think I might post some on Murmurs to make you all jealous! hahaha

oh yeah and it never got under 32 degrees. This pasty little pom got a tan (which shpuld be gone by saturday)
