I see myself as someone with an open mind about mostly anything... I think that many people with whom I discussed in News & Events can agree to this. There are very few things that I'm just not willing to tolerate. There are very few things that manage to offend me as a person and It's not easy to find one of those things, But someone has managed to do that.

The following was said to me by Jim Barry, the administrator of Myrem.com:

Personally I think that any person on earth who believes in the same values as I do will understand why I'm asking to boycott it. Expressing opinions is one thing, and anti-semism is one other thing. Personally I was disgusted by this quote, as I hope you are too.

This is indeed a very sad and sickening thing to say. I would surely help the boycot but I am not registered to that site anyway.

This is utterly vile Joni, I will not be visiting the site.  I had registered but rarely visited; people need to know about this rascist scum and boycot it completely.

I think Antti meant it wasn't appropriate for General Announcements, and I'd have to concur there.

I did mean that too. I do think it's totally absurd and racist to say such a thing but there are faults here as well. Because of one individual stating such a comment i don't see a reason to boycot the whole board. Even if we are talking about the site adminstrator. There have been lots of things said on this board that reach the same level as Jim's post does.

I do understand Joni's and Ethan's personal involvement because it was something that really offended their faith.

So, do what you do and think what you think. I don't think what Jim said is appropriate, but i am not boycotting myrem. (i visit so rarely anyway)

I think I am a tolerant person but there are some things I will not countenace; one of them is racism/anti-semetism.  Any history I have with anybody, positive or negative is irrelevant when they espouse this kind of bile.

I am astounded that you don't seem to feel anysort of real anger or personal engagement at what was said by James Barry.  

Because Ethan and Joni are Jewish then they have a legitimate reason to be angry and offended but we don't?  If somebody else is attacked because of their religion, race or ethnicity it is everybody's concern.

First of all, come down a bit. You are starting to act like Jim was the new Hitler.

Well where did i say that you don't have the right to be angry?  And if you can't tolerate the fact that i just find it racist to say [b]and that I don't hold a personal grudge against him because of what he said, but his quote did make me a bit cautious.

The problem with Mr. Barrys comments is that Jews arent the ONLY ones that define themselves by their religion. There are a lot of other countries that do the same thing.

I guess the question is rather how do you determine what is civilized?

I don't think Jim is the new Hitler; neither do I think he is a large scale right winger. What I was trying to say is how can you say that such an openly rascist statement is simply 'innapropriate'.

Yes I do take rascism personally.  Jim did not make a social faux pas,  he made an opnely rascist statement.  Yes we've all said 'innapropriate'  things Antti but I have never made a rascist comment in my life; can't you see this goes beyond 'innapropriate'?

Like what?, Don't mention now something that a certain user did. We are talking about the person who OWNS the site. It's HIS site, and he just posted something that I don't accept, and I think that many others won't accept either.

I think you are grasping at straws here. Boycott myrem if you want to. I dont go there personally. But why announce here that he is racist?

I can see what he is trying to say. I dont agree with him and I hardly find it racist. . .maybe stupid but not racist.
