Okay I wanted to get a vinyl-only thread going so here it is. I mean old fashioned records, not vinyl siding or car seats.

My needle finally wore down and I have yet to buy a new one, so lately I am buying more CD's. A new needle for my Onkyo costs $70.00-$100.00 so it may be a bit before I am in vinyl heaven again. However I still happen across records I cant beat for the price so I pick them up.

My most recent purchases were the "Antmusic Ep" by Adam and The Ants and The Gossip's  "Redd Hott" seven inch. The former I have yet to play but it was released prior to "Dirk Wears White Socks" and has alternate versions of songs off that record. I highly recommend "Dirk Wears White Socks" by the Ants as it has a very sonic punky edge to it which will surprise people who are only familiar with "goody Two Shoes" and the like. The U.S. version has different songs and mixes than the U.K. version. Oh, and a different cover. But the CD version seems impossible to find lately. The U.S. vinyl edition is out there at vinyl shops if you are looking hard enough.

With the exception of guitarist Marko, the other band mates left Adam Ant to become part of Bow-Wow-Wow.
But anyway...

The Gossip 7" I heard on my brother's turntable and it was a let down considering all the great things I have heard about that band.

Prior to those I picked up two Gene Defcon 7"-ers. "Liz" and "Life is Full of Parties."  Superb pop zaniness. I also mail ordered "Future News From The Front Line" by Glorium from the bands bass player. It's great.

The last vinylrecords I  bought were:

The Cure - Faith I haven't listened much to the Cure but I really enjoy this one. Which of their other records should I get if I like this sound?

Nicolai Dunger - A dress book(new) I have already starded a thread about this one in music so I wont say anything else here.

Nicolai Dunger - This cloud is learning (new)

The members - Offshore banking business The B-side is really cool...called "Solitary confinement"

I will probably pick up some more soon. Great thread by the way. I really need to get a new turntable because mine sucks but I haven't found any at a good price yet. Can you recommend any good ones...Manontrack are you happy with your Onkyo??

Well I bought myself a turn table in December, first one I've had in nearly ten years, so I ve been buying a bit since then.

So far:
The Replacements - Don't Tell a Soul
T-Rex - The Slider
T-Rex - Electric Warrior
Soundgarden - Ultramegaok
Neil Young - Harvest
Pearl Jam - Ten
Pearl Jam - Vs.
and not a purchase but, the Pearl Jam, Ten Club X-Mas singles.

I have a few other things on order as well.

I'd have to say right now my favorite piece of vinyl is the T-Rex - The Slider.  If you can find this vinyl or otherwise, it's a definate must have album. :)

I own exactly one vinyl:

The Seeing Eye Gods - s/t EP

I don't have a turntable either, so I don't listen to it much.

I just got a stack of old Johnny Cash stuff in a thrift store for 50 cents each, including one on Sun.

I must say, I had an odd moment Saturday night at a guys house when I noticed how carefully he changed his records, I was almost turned on by it :)

I bought him a copy of Best of Bread Volume 2 to show my appreciation ;)

I need to buy a vinyl record player.

When I attended the Mogwai concert in June, I bought a 10-inch record (Mogwai on side one, opening band, Bardo Pond on side two).   Althought I don't own a player, I bought the single because it was only being sold on the tour and would make a great memento for $5.  I'm itching to hear Mogwai on vinyl.

I also find that it is easier to find "long lost" works (The Feelies, New Order singles on Factory label, etc.) on vinyl.

I love my turntable.  I got it at a f'cking goodwill of all places. It's just too bad that the stylus (however you spell that) is so expensive. I dont know very much about turntables but I have seen some pretty serious looking ones that look appealing. Like those old Macintosh (not Apple) brand stereo systems.

Wow. I love that stuff. Shmaltz! Well, minus the beach boys and Cash. Which Belafonte and Brazil 66 records? You know that Bob Dylan's first appearance on a record was on a Belafonte album right?

Absolutely. And sometimes you can find those gems for next to nothing. I went into a thrift shop in some town (can't recall where) once (it was in the hood) and found someone's entire New Wave record collection in there. Unbelievable. I got all sorts of 12" singles and stuff for a dollar each. They had a ton of Cure, Smiths, Depeche Mode, Birthday Party, etc. Most of them were in great shape too. I have since parted ways with alot of those records in a moving situation where I had to unload alot of possessions. But it was still a magical moment!

no, i did not know that about dylan - my new fact for the day!

next time i visit my parents, i am extracting the classical records and eventually i'll take some selections from the broadway musical/showtune album leaving that bloody awful barbra streisand behind [i loathe barbra].

also have quite a few bill cosby albums, what i was weaned on as a youngster. plus the much vaunted nipsy russell album.

Disintegration. It's twice as epic and long.

As mentioned in the "normal" recent purchases thread, I bought Calexico - Descamino a few days ago. I like it.

I tend not to buy too much vinyl (though i did for a while because it's cheaper) because a) I'm too lazy to listen to vinyl on a regular basis, b) it needs a lot of space and c) I really don't think I can afford to replace my record player, amplifier or speakers any time soon if they break.

My local charity shop sometimes has some great vinyl finds lurking amid all the old-folk crap.. last time i was there I emerged with six LPs for £1.. that included Faith No More, The Police, Emmylou Harris, Gladys Knight and The Pips, Japan, and Bob Dylan... they let me take bundles of classical vinyl off their hands for about the same price too.. I've got quite a collection of classical music on vinyl now.. and only about half of it is scratched ;)

The best vinyl deal I think I've ever found on an LP was in the downstairs of some record shop in Camden (where all the sale LPs and 45s were) and I found a practically mint condition copy (still had most of the shrink wrap on) of a Bow Wow Wow record that I'd been looking for for months.. and it was being sold for a whopping 50p! I was very pleased.

I've got to get a new drive belt for my record player... it has held up well for 26 years (so says my mother who bought it in 1976) but it's recently been going a bit warped... it deserves repair after so many years of loyal and faithful service..
