Okay people I have a question, I picked up a six track EP by Tanzplagen at a local record fair for £5, it has the 'lost' single and four live tracks on it and....it's pretty good.
Does anyone have any idea of it's worth/authenticity?

MAil to the usual address........

I have a copy, too, got it on ebay for a couple of Euro. I don't think it's worth that much, it pops up regularly on ebay. Like Mr. William Lee said, lots of thousands of this have been sold, so I would guess the demand is not that high.

Concerning authenticity: Why shouldn't it be authentic? Why do you have doubts?

Hey William

Looks like we all got on the wrong foot.

Let me just clear things up about the music share. We are all music fans here who want to supporet the artist who's music we love. We dont condone the theft of interlectual property in anyway. We have permission to share bootlegs and even some stuff avaliable from REMHQ like fanclub singles etc.

We are happy to have someone who worked with Michael all those years ago visit us. I'm working on a new REM history website and was talking about Tanzplagen to my partner the other night when i was trying to dig up info on the old stipe gigs, so the timing of this is rather amazing.

We are a friendly helpful community of fans and it would be nice to be treated as such. As a public forum we cannot be all responsible for or agree with the views everyone posts.

So to begin again Welcome to Murmurs

I felt compelled by the beautiful prose of one W. Lee Self to do something to promote the band that was Tanzplagen. So i took my copy of the "Lost Single", Burnt about 300 copies onto CD-r and then gave them to people on the street. I then posted the rest to various locations all over the world with a note explaining how Self wanted people to have this CD but did not want any money in return. After all, He is not doing the reissue for money but only for the good of others. I  Told All the recipients of the CD that Michael Stipe was on the record but i don't know if William will approve as i am sure he would not use Stipe as a marketing angle. The Music will sell itself! Long Live Tanzplagen!!! If i can be of any more assistance in the marketing of Tanzplagen please let me know.

ps. When will the triumphant reunion concert featuring Tanzplagen commence?

"Of course you liked early R.E.M. best," I want to say. "You were 17 years old and drunk on tequila and in love with a girl who didn't know you existed, and 'Harborcoat' summed up your melancholy mood like it was written just for you."

Ok Willie I'll drop the base and sophmoric insults and say it simple. Tanzplagen are shit. Not even Stipe could make it a good band. My advice to anyone is do not buy this reissue. it is not worth it. No juvenile humour here just the truth!

William Lee Self

How does Lynda Stipe feel about this project, does she have any intellectual rights and does she want it revisited?Did she have input to the songwriting?

SIRS: your site and the "miles standish" member have been reported to the IFPI for illegal file sharing- They have promised to take action- IFPI is an international group- enjoy!
William Lee(for the very last time)

Germany launches biggest legal action against illegal file-sharing

IFPI welcomes criminal proceedings launched today against 3500 eDonkey users

Cologne, 23rd May 2006

The biggest single action against illegal file-sharing internationally took place in Germany today as 3,500 illegal music file-sharers faced criminal prosecution for uploading large amounts of copyrighted material on peer-to-peer networks.

Investigators identified individual illegal music file-sharers who were using the eDonkey network to offer up to 8,000 copyright infringing music files on the internet.

Each of the individuals faces both criminal prosecution and claims for compensation for their actions under civil law. They are likely to face damage claims of up to several thousand euros for distributing music on file-sharing networks, without permission, for millions of other to download.

Police today searched 130 premises to gather evidence in the investigations, which have been running for several months. The actions are coordinated by the Public Prosecution Service of Cologne and the Police Authority of Bergheim.

File-sharing networks, such as eDonkey, cause huge damage to investment in music and cost the international recording industry billions of dollars in lost sales every year. In Germany, legal physical sales of music have fallen by a third in five years, while more than 400 million music files were downloaded illegally in 2005 alone.

The German recording industry has taken high-profile actions against file-sharers since early 2004. They are part of an international campaign that has seen more than 7,000 legal proceedings brought against uploaders in the last three years. Hundreds of settlements have resulted in file-sharers paying an average of 2,500 euros in damages.

Michael Haentjes, Chairman of IFPI Germany and Chairman and CEO of Edel Music, said: "The important message to all internet users is that you cannot rely on being undiscovered when committing crime online.

"On behalf of the recording industry, IFPI thanks the police for a great piece of teamwork and a superb investigation success."

John Kennedy, chairman and chief executive of IFPI said: "I am pleased that the German authorities recognise the serious impact of copyright crime and are taking action against it. Internet piracy has hurt the whole music community in Germany, with legitimate sales falling by a third in just five years. The victims are investment in music and everyone who makes a livelihood out of the music industry.

"No one should be surprised that we are stepping up our campaign in this way. The music industry has run numerous education campaigns aimed at audiences from parents to schools and internet users. Most people clearly know that file-sharing without permission is illegal - unfortunately it takes legal actions such as this make a real impact on behaviour. Today, there is every reason for music lovers to download legitimately. There is a huge choice of legal services available to consumers. There is really no excuse for stealing music online."

Note to editors:

IFPI is the organisation that promotes the interests of the international recording industry worldwide. Its membership comprises over 1400 major and independent companies in more than 70 countries. It also has affiliated industry national groups in 48 countries. IFPI's mission is to fight music piracy; promote fair market access and good copyright laws; help develop the legal conditions and the technologies for the recording industry to prosper in the digital era; and to promote the value of music.

Wow been a while since Ive checked this thread since its outside my usual murmurs area..

The Tanzplagen project has generated some great support from this forum if you look at this thread -
http://www.murmurs.c...ight=Tanzplagen

Most people on this site are community minded people who want to do the right thing. The majority want to make sure royalities go to the hard working people who deserve it. Dont hold the whole murmurs community in context of a couple of posts

I can certainly say that if it was shared way back in the old WINMX it was with some sort of permission, and that was a long time ago.

I can guarentee we dont share commercially released material and that Tanzplagen will never ever appear on the new bitTorrent service we offer here on Murmurs.

Quite right and we are working diligently in making sure that this won't happen here. You can browse our tracker and our FAQ policy for more information on this. And, If we ever shared it on old WinMX we apologize for it and make sure that this won't happen again.

Since this thread has turned in different direction than the initial post I will now going to close it. If you have any problem with this decision contact me or any of the moderation team and we will gladly answer any questions you might add.
