This isn't really of any importance at all, I just thought it'd make a fun post :)

I bought an album by The Electric Eels today without ever having heard any of their songs simply because I knew that they're the ex-band of one of the moderators of one of my favourite radio shows. I thought that since he likes good music his own stuff can't be too bad (I was right, you almost can't hear that they aren't British :))

I put it into the CD player and listened to it, paying absolutely no attention to the lyrcis and suddendly thought: "didn't I just hear the name Michael Stipe"??

Here's the lyrics to the song:

Everyone

I've known you for some time now
You're living proof of how
A vague first-hand impression works
On second-hand lay-outs
And you do even more so
You're just the way you seem
With all your boasting vision talk
Pretensions, plans and schemes
You know
Everyone under the sun has dreams
Everyone under the sun
Everyone under the sun has dreams
Everyone under the sun
You lived your life in the shadows
Of those whose drinks you spiked
The story of the murderer
Who kills just to be liked
But you can't even live up
To such a stereotype
The next thing you'll come up with is
A duet with Michael Stipe

You know
Everyone under the sun has dreams
Everyone under the sun
Everyone under the sun has dreams
Everyone under the sun
And I don't give a monkey's
For anything you say
It's just not on
And surely not OK
You know
Everyone under the sun can see
Everyone under the sun
Everyone under the sun
Everyone under the sun

There's a song from the Wonder Stuff off Never Loved Elvis which mentions Michael Stipe As well...Can't think of the name though.

Um its a song called "Maybe" from yeah "Never Loved Elvis" a great album...the lyric is very complementary of Stipe I guess...

Maybe I should take the mic/Stand up tall like Michael Stipe/And try to solve the problems of the earth/Or maybe then I should sit back down/Scratch my chin and use my frown/And try to figure out exactly what Im worth/Were still building churches, burning books /Killing the babies to feed the crooks

Hootie and the Blowfish had a lyric mentioning his name too

She sits alone by a lamppost/trying to find a thought that’s escaped her mind/She says Dad’s the one I love the most/but Stipe’s not far behind

Hmm that Electric Eels album actually seems to be the album with the best cost effectiveness I've bought in a while...I was lucky there

That Wonder Stuff song isn't bad either

this band was called "pavement".
it was just this line..."southern boys like you and me..."
and that the singer seems to be out of everything.

i've got a Beat Farmers song that i got off of Napster and the file was called "Beat Farmers Fans! You will enjoy" and it was right. starts out with the lyric "i finally talked to Michael Stipe/ he touched me on my arm / i met him up in the Hollywood hills / among the movie and tv stars." i think it's pretty good.

I know of 2 songs that Mention Michael's name.

Hootie and the blowfish have a song called Let her cry.  And there is a line that goes.  There is the one I love the most but Stipe's not far behind.
And the other song is by Live called people Like You and this will be on their next album due out in june or july.  Well there's a line in it and Ed sings the line In my dream I am on the stage with Queen, Michael Stipe, Elton John, Bono and Springsteen.
It's a cool song.  You can check out their website.  www.friendsoflive.com

why is that demented? it may be fun, it may be untrue but it doesn't make it evil or anything.

Just the way in which the song was written was evil... you'd have to see it to know...
