Publication in the U.S. is soon to follow. More info (including an excerpt) from Tony's website here.
"We were listening to the UNC radio (station) there and they were playing an R.E.M. song. I like R.E.M. fine, but at the end of it, the DJ says, 'Ya that was R.E.M., the sound of the new South'. I looked at my roommate and we said, Gawd, if that's the sound of the new South, I preferred it when it was on the skids. That's how we got the name."

And we have a winner. Wonder whatever happened to Anthony DeCurtis' planned bio of the band?

He abandoned it for some reason. I can't remember why.

Tony Fletcher has posted an excerpt from Perfect Circle on his website. This passage focuses on the Collapse Into Now era which you can read here. Thanks to Andy Johnson from the R.E.M. Fans United page on Facebook for the heads up.

While it's good to have a up-to-date book on the band and I enjoyed the new material, it seems like this could have used a bit more careful proof reading and editing. A quick flip though the book reveals a few errors and omissions.
Road Movie is identified as the only official release of "Revolution" when the studio version was subsequently released on the Batman & Robin soundtrack.
The discography omits the the first three songs on Accelerate as well as the release dates of albums released subsequent to the last edition of the book and the bonus disc track listing for In Time.
The videogaphy notes the failure to compile the post-Monster videos when in fact all the post-Monster videos through Bad Day (except Suspicion) were included on In View. Minor quibbles, to be sure, but still . . . .
And from a general layout perspective, I think it would have been better to expand the photos by including three photo sections, each dealing with a distinct period of the band: IRS years, WB 1, WB 2 (trio).
Still, very interesting that Buck was such a champion of including "On The Fly" on Accelerate as it really does have a strong ATS vibe.

Looking forward to getting this book - I liked his last edition - hope there's lots of photos.

Also (for those keeping track), the backing music to "Hey BED" is incorrectly identified as "I'm Gonna DJ" rather than "Horse To Water" and "Tomorrow" is mentioned as being recorded to "powerful effect" without any mention that the song was renamed "Hollow Man" as released on Accelerate.
