R.E.M. is no more except on record. Technology and people have changed and advanced so I doubt murmurs will ever come back to the way it once was. One must accept the change. I believe Murmurs needs people to post content and more discussions happening.

Led Zeppelin (as well as other bands) are "no more" yet message boards devoted to them are alive and well. Those boards may not be as active as they were prior to the popularity of Facebook and Twitter but they're much more active than Murmurs. And yes, Zeppelin's official board has seen some increased activity due to the release of Celebration Day (a document of their 2007 reunion at the O2 Arena in London) but that will eventually subside. The last blast of increased activity here was the announcement that they were splitting up in 2011. No amount of new threads or content being posted here is going to return Murmurs to what it once was. With a few exceptions, message boards and email lists have become a thing of the past. Even once the popularity of FB fades, which it eventually will, just like MySpace before it, I don't think we're suddenly going to see the return of message boards. By the way, I love this place as much as anyone so I'm not trying to be a downer, that's just the reality as I see it. Murmurs is what those of us that still frequent it make of it. At present, that's probably something like 15-20 of us, if that many.
For whatever it's worth, there's a similar thread here and at least one other one (although I don't recall the title of it), maybe more, in the event that you're interested in reading other Murmursians thoughts on the subject.

"We were listening to the UNC radio (station) there and they were playing an R.E.M. song. I like R.E.M. fine, but at the end of it, the DJ says, 'Ya that was R.E.M., the sound of the new South'. I looked at my roommate and we said, Gawd, if that's the sound of the new South, I preferred it when it was on the skids. That's how we got the name."

You know I'm sick of people who come on here and yearn for the past but don't commit themselves to any 'past like' contribution. Welcome back, contribute to this place or fuck off.

The only thing missing is the mention of the word "feaks".
