What would you like to see for the 25th anniversary rerelease of Green? I hope they include demos, and either a live Show (Orlando Westwood One/Pinkpop '89) or a rerelease of Tourfilm to go along with it.......

An expanded, standalone re-release of Tourfilm would be great but I'm not holding my breath.
"We were listening to the UNC radio (station) there and they were playing an R.E.M. song. I like R.E.M. fine, but at the end of it, the DJ says, 'Ya that was R.E.M., the sound of the new South'. I looked at my roommate and we said, Gawd, if that's the sound of the new South, I preferred it when it was on the skids. That's how we got the name."

I hope for maybe the demos (including some which are unavailable now) in great quality, or a previously unavailable live recording? Perhaps a great quality one of the LEAF benefit?

I would like to see them release the Green demos in good quality. Unless there's a video to go with it, I don't see the point in releasing a live show with this one since we already have TourFilm and since the shows from the Green Tour have been bootlegged so much. As a side note, I can't wait to see what they do for the Automatic rerelease.

I realize we already have Tourfilm, that's why I suggested an expanded anniversary edition that could be released separately from the Green reissue. One loaded with extras as certainly there was more footage shot than what made it onto the original release. A booklet would also be nice. Again, not holding my breath but it would be nice to see as it is my favorite of the officially released live video collections.

There were a lot of non album songs, b-sides, etc like Dark Globe, Funtime, etc... but I agree, a full concert would be best. The green demos circulate, and, frankly, I don't find them that interesting. If I knew who was playing what and what the demos morphed into then that might make it more interesting. They were switching it up with Bill playing bass on some things, etc..
and, yeah, if Tourfilm was expanded that would be awesome. I wasn't a big fan of the editing on that, but if there was a lot of more 'straight' performance footage that would be cool. We'll see.
I'm not that excited by the remasters, even though I am buying them and enjoying the better sound quality. I'd be ecstatic if they were to put out some early 80s video, or audio!

Do we actually know that Green will be re-released? I assumed the anniversary editions were an effort of IRS' (and successors')? Will Warner continue the program?

I could get behind a re-release of Tourfilm (and Road Movie, too) because in addition to adding bonus footage, there's always the possibility of giving them the 5.1 treatment.

I always thought the drum sound on Tourfilm was really poor- mic'd too close, not enough low end & space that you'd really hear at a big venue. It's the ONLY time I've used the cheesy "rock concert" setting on my Yamaha receiver-- it adds reverb and bass to the mix.
There's a pretty cool re-mastering of the Tourfilm audio available here:

Though it doesn't do much for the drum sound except make it louder.

This photo was posted on the R.E.M. Fans United page on FB which evidently comes from an instagram photo posted by Zac Recording out of Atlanta. There are more photos here. There is also this bit of info which is posted on the Zac Recording Studio homepage under "Session News":

Driver Nate- this is amazing, thanks for the find. I love that there is a mic dedicated to "conga/chair"-- most likely for "King of Birds" and "World Leader Pretend" respectively.

Wow that's cool, thanks Nate. Brings back memories of seeing them in Chicago in '89.

Talking about them putting the Westwood One shows on the rerelease, the Document rerelease included the Utrecht show, which is widely bootlegged........ So it's a possiblilty

My first R.E.M. concert too! I still have strong feelings of longing to have seen them before that gig, but cest la vie.
I think I read that their 1982 Caberet Metro gig was the first concert at that venue. Not sure if that is true or not, just something I read.
That 1989 show was fantastic. I was blown away. Most bootlegs I had heard were from 1985 before seeing them at that gig, and the changes they went through in the live presentation were pretty dramatic if you ask me. That was for the best seeing how big the rooms were they were playing, of course. I really enjoyed the After Hours and the Perfect Circle they played.

I would love to find a bootleg of that '89 Rosemont Horizon show. I distinctly remember them playing "Flowers of Guatemala"-- very beautiful performance and kind of rare for the Green tour if I'm not mistaken.

Wow, you'd think I would remember that but I don't. Love that tune.
One weird thing I do recall is when they ran on stage, Michael turned to Bill and said (what it looked like to me from the middle of the side of the floor, was), "I had ______ hits!" Fill in a number like twelve or something like that. I forget the number but it was something like that. I know, that makes no sense, but that's what I thought he said. Bill didn't change his serious expression, he just nodded and kept watching Mike and Peter for the signal to start the first song. Make of this what you will!

From the rem timeline:
8 November 1989 - Hampton Coliseum, Hampton, VA
support: Pylon
set: Stand / The One I Love / So. Central Rain (I'm Sorry) / Turn You Inside-Out / Belong / Exhuming McCarthy / Good Advices / Orange Crush / Feeling Gravitys Pull / Time After Time (Annelise) / These Days / We Live As We Dream, Alone - World Leader Pretend / Future 40's (String Of Pearls) - I Believe / I Remember California / Get Up / Life And How To Live It / It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)
encore 1: Pop Song 89 / Fall On Me / You Are The Everything
encore 2: Harpers / Begin The Begin / King Of Birds / See No Evil
encore 3: Low / Finest Worksong / Perfect Circle / Dark Globe / After Hours
notes: This concert was filmed for 'Tourfilm', and some songs from this show appear on that video
So, given the "24 songs" note, which ones will be omitted ? If iteotwawki is number 17, it's probable that We live as we dream, alone; future 40's; and the other covers from the 3 encores won't be on the compilation
