He sang "Wichita Lineman" with Patti Smith during her show at the Bowery in NYC on December 31st of last year. There may have been other performances but this is one I'm definitely aware of.

"We were listening to the UNC radio (station) there and they were playing an R.E.M. song. I like R.E.M. fine, but at the end of it, the DJ says, 'Ya that was R.E.M., the sound of the new South'. I looked at my roommate and we said, Gawd, if that's the sound of the new South, I preferred it when it was on the skids. That's how we got the name."

Good King Wenceslas! I loved their fan club version when it came out, circa 1989. This should be cool.

To the performance? It doesn't air until next week. Full episodes are uploaded to Colbert's website after the fact.

This will be the 3rd live performance since they broke.  In November 2011 Michael was on Colbert and they sang with Brian Eno. He and Colbert must be friends.  And remember Michael has been on his shelf for a long time now.
The last performance was with Patti at her last New Years Eve show on Dec 31 2011.  So it's been a year since he has sang live.  Earlier this year he had said, "I'm not a singer anymore."  He went on to say that he now only sings in the shower.

Hey I know it sounds dirty obsessive but if anyone wants to bug his shower it would be interesting to hear what he sings.  :D :P

I can't believe that Michael sang on the benefit for Sandy last night with Chris Martin and I missed it.  And my crappy dvr didn't record the full concert so I never got to see it.

Thanks Thomas.  Good thing we got youtube.  They also have Chris Martin's full performance.  Gosh the show must of ended around 1:30am.
Michael has been doing A LOT for the Sandy victims. I believe he has been volunteering.  He has went to Rockaway Beach to view some of the devastation and is supporting www.rebuildrecover.org  I tend to check out charities he supports because I just know they are the real deal.

He looked pretty chubby in some odd way, hehe...but I thought he sang really, really well there.

I still need to watch the full performance. I peaked here at work really quick.   I'll watch it with my best friend when I get home.
Same here.  I really hope he eventually will miss singing enough to do something in music again. I'll take anything.

Sweden you are right.  Michael is a little more heavier than he used to be.  I think that high metabolism he mentioned a lot in the past has slowed down.  And now that he hasn't been vegetarian in a long while that might be a factor.  A veg diet can help one to maintain their weight. He did mention in an interview this year that he has been running to build adrenaline up that he used to get from performing.   When he was so thin from 1989 to what 2005 people kept saying he needs to gain weight.

I think a lot of it has to do with him quitting smoking. A lot of people put on weight when they quit.

Really think he sounded better there than he did for most of 2008, even singing the whole song without the off-key parts he added from 03-08

I was thinking the same thing Thomas.  Digital and HD TV can make everyone look heavier than they are.  The same goes for Digital camera's.  They tend to widen people slightly.

Here's a link to Colbert, Stipe and Mandy Patinkin performing "Good King Wenceslas" on The Colbert Report last night.
