Found both of those on vinyl at In the Groove Records here in Raleigh today. I saw the Fabulous Knobs album in there several weeks ago but it didn't really pique my interest until I heard it was fetching as much as $90 on eBay. I tipped a few folks off about it so I was quite surprised to still see it in the racks today. The other album is a compilation put together by the folks at the now defunct K-94 FM out of Norfolk, VA. I was never able to pick up the station all that good because it was so far away but at night you could get a pretty clear signal. We had some good local radio in NC back in K-94's heyday but they sounded like nothing else around here. The comp consists mainly of bands that were more well known in the Tidewater area of VA but there's at least a couple (the Super Grit Cowboy Band and Sutter's Gold Streak) that were also quite popular around these parts. In fact, the Super Grit Cowboy Band is still going strong, even after all of these years.
"We were listening to the UNC radio (station) there and they were playing an R.E.M. song. I like R.E.M. fine, but at the end of it, the DJ says, 'Ya that was R.E.M., the sound of the new South'. I looked at my roommate and we said, Gawd, if that's the sound of the new South, I preferred it when it was on the skids. That's how we got the name."

Saw a group called Sweet Billy Pilgrim on newsnight reveiw last night and decidd to make them my band de jour so  bought there new album from itunes but not before trying to download it for free via mp3ify. I'd downloaded one song but couldn't find the others on mp3ify so bought the album, I was going to buy one of their albums a/w today but wanted try and get one on mp3ify for free first before buying another one. Strangely enough the one I'd downloaded from mp3ify wouldn't download from itunes and it keeps saying the file is corrupted so I havn't got the full album 'cause the one I downloaded from mp3ify was a live version so i guess that serves me right from ripping music from mp3ify. I'm happy to buy music from small bands like SBP though 'cause it's one thing to rip  Sting mp3's from mp3ify but it's another thing altogheter ripping mp3's from SBP for obvious reasons.

I regret buying that SBP album now. It's alright but just doesn't grip me a/w they seem like nice people so I just think about it as a charitable donation now also the song that didn't download has now downloaded which makes me feel a bit better.

There's also a band out there called Billy Pilgrim, they had a hit a number of years back with "That Sweet Louisiana Sound".

No doubt that's why the Sweet has been added to the British group!

The Temperance League is a great new band out of Charlotte fronted by Bruce Hazel. Think Springsteen, Southside Johnny, the Clash and Graham Parker all rolled into one and you'll begin to have some idea of what they sound like. This is the latest in a series of 45's they're putting out leading up to the release of their first full length record.

Scored this thanks to Prine's current sale via his Facebook page. A different album will be featured for sale each weekend throughout the summer up until Labor Day. I have most everything of his either on vinyl or CD but still have a few holes to fill. This is one of 'em.
