There's an upcoming show by the Baseball Project at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City: it's taking place April 13, 2012.

The band is to perform in the context of an exhibition of baseball cards which opened at the Met in mid January  and runs through June.

The band's lineup for the occasion hasn't been announced, but the event is listed on www.stevewynn.net and Scott McCaughey has referred to it here on murmurs on elsewhere on the Internet.

City States, a band which defines itself as "Chicago art-pop", admittedly influenced by Radiohead, have just released a cover of "You Are the Everything". Listen to the song on their bandcamp page: http://citystates.bandcamp.com/

In an interview with onmilwaukee.com, Kevn Kinney of Drivin' N Cryin' has revealed a few details about their upcoming LP.

Quote

OMC: Is there another new Drivin' N Cryin' record coming down the pike soon, too?

KK: Yes, it's going be called "Songs from the Laundromat." We will be playing most of them at the show. We have a tribute song to R.E.M. which is my favorite.

I'm guessing this is the tribute to R.E.M. that Kevn refers to in the interview:

"We were listening to the UNC radio (station) there and they were playing an R.E.M. song. I like R.E.M. fine, but at the end of it, the DJ says, 'Ya that was R.E.M., the sound of the new South'. I looked at my roommate and we said, Gawd, if that's the sound of the new South, I preferred it when it was on the skids. That's how we got the name."

That should be the song.

I also noticed that you had announced a 2012 album by Kevn Kinney, but that's a solo album different to this one?

Yes, it is. It's called A Good Country Mile which includes drummer Anton Fier (amongst many other guest stars). Anton is probably best known around these parts for his work with the Golden Palominos. Kevn is going to be at the Local 506 in Chapel Hill next week touring in support of the album. In addition to Anton, his touring band includes Audley Freed (Black Crowes, Cry of Love) and Tim Nielsen (the bassist for Drivin' n' Cryin'). Opening is Lynn Blakey of Tres Chicas (which also includes Caitlin Cary of Whiskeytown and the Small Ponds and Tonya Lamm of Hazeldine), Glory Fountain and Oh OK. Some of these dates are solo, some are with a band. For more info, check here.

Now will Peter at least be apart of the performance at the Metropolitan Museum?  I'm still waiting to find out a time of day.  I plan on visiting the museum all day since I've never been in there before.

I'm answering my own question.  Mike will also join Peter and the gang at the New York gig too.  Seeing Peter and Mike is wonderful but it's sheer R.E.M. torment because only one is missing. Mike and Peter don't miss playing together or anything.

Last year during a television interview, I think it was a Norwegian network, Michael Stipe said "we're done" when asked about reunion plans. When I heard that I quickly disconnected from the site where I was watching and felt disappointed and sad. With time I have come to accept the fact that will never play together again, in the meantime I have lent my ear to The Baseball Project, which I ignored for the most part of 2011, even though they released a record almost simultaneously with Collapse into Now.

Highlights from that album are: '1976' which is a perfect opener to the CD, 'Fair Weather Fans', 'Tony (Boston's Chosen Son)' and 'Twilight of my career'. They may be my favourite active band at the moment.

I know Michael said that, but yet in another interview he can't fathom the idea he will not perform on stage again.  The only person stopping him from performing is himself.  His priorities seems to change all the time so who knows if he'll do anything in music again.

Here is More info about The Baseball Project's performance at the Met. You can also buy tickets at this same link.

I'm not a huge baseball fan but this sounds interesting.
