Where I live there is the happenings a gang leader who has survived 4 assasination attempts.  He is apparently connected with outlaw bikie gangs but he's not talking to police about who has been making attempts on his life even after his son was shot dead.  What's really scary is the shootings have happened in public places. The media has been focusing on it being somewhat of a outlaw bikie gang war, but it seems to be certain individuals fighting amongst each other. There is good and bad everywhere but I kind of feel for  bikies who have no part in this getting a bad rap.

We have been having bad weather lately.   We have had tornado warnings two days in the last week (a warning means that one has been seen in the area) and flash floods.   No tornadoes have actually hit but still a little scary.

I live in eastern Washington state, US. We have had almost no snow all winter. We had a smidge back around Thanksgiving. The area was supposed to be hit by the giant storm that paralyzed Seattle and Portland a few weeks ago. However, the snow didn't reach epic proportions, and has already melted away. I think Spring is on it's way!

I did miss a white Christmas this year. Thank you global waming.

Since I've been offline on acc. of Laptop problems a teenage girl was stabbed to death in a park just around the corner from where I've moved to. A woman in her 20's has been arrested.

Australian democracy seems to be iimploding.

Other than that, it's the same old same old.

Oh and the 2012 vintage is looking very good.

Some people, don't know who they are, are spreading talk of seceeding from the state again. We'd be called "Superior" and no longer considered part of Michgian. Suits me fine--we're not connected to MI by land and if anything we should be part of Wisconsin, but I kind of hate the Packers--Aaron Rodgers notwithstanding. It's not gonna happen, though. Apparently only one vote kept us from seceeding the last time, though. I don't know fuck all about it, really.

Also it's finals week and all the kids are being dicks. Spitting on the sidewalks, being hoggy with study rooms, bringing back books late and saying they're not, etc. Crying when their papers don't print. Getting drunk in the carrells upstairs. Leaving Jimmy John's everywhere.

I need a drink and a vacay.

Since moving here in Feb I've not been out much in to town but have been in a few times during the past month and as i have to walk throgh the red light area i have been aproached by a few of the hookers looking for 'business' and have seen some other women who are almost c ertainly hookers I've been wondring y none of them wear skirts or dreses and I guess its cause they're worried it'll make it too easy to rape them Which must be a massive worry for them. I've actuqlly got a bit frindly and infatuated with one of them called Cheryl and when she walked into town with me last week she invited me to a party like we were old friends or something. I just moved the conversation on cause she's a junky, I know this cause I found her slumped on the pavement one day in what was obviously a heroin induced coma...I actually thought she might be dead...and obviously It's wise to be a bit wary of going to parties with junky whores one hardly knows. I just give her money for kebab meat n chips which is all she seems to eat.

Good gosh. All I can say is I'm sorry. I'm dealing with far less significant problems than you at the time.

Tomorrow, it seems very likely (at least according to the latest projections from The New York Times) that Amendment One will pass in North Carolina. For those unfamiliar with this Amendment, it states:

Quote

Constitutional amendment to provide that marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this State.

If it passes, it will amend Article 14 of the NC Constitution by adding a new section:

Quote

Sec. 6. Marriage.
Marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this State. This section does not prohibit a private party from entering into contracts with another private party; nor does this section prohibit courts from adjudicating the rights of private parties pursuant to such contracts.

Yesterday, I attended a rally against Amendment One at the Pinhook in Durham that included performances from Mount Moriah, Kooley High and Amy Ray of Indigo Girls. Here's some clips my friend Dan Schram shot at the concert. The first clip, from Amy Ray's set, includes a brief segment from Melissa York, the drummer from Amy's backing band, the Butchies, in which she speaks out against the amendment.

"We were listening to the UNC radio (station) there and they were playing an R.E.M. song. I like R.E.M. fine, but at the end of it, the DJ says, 'Ya that was R.E.M., the sound of the new South'. I looked at my roommate and we said, Gawd, if that's the sound of the new South, I preferred it when it was on the skids. That's how we got the name."
- Rick Miller of Southern Culture on the Skids
