After Todos Santos, Robyn Hitchcock + The Venus 3 are regrouping and playing with Peter Buck. At least two websites have announced that they'll be performing in Israel in late March, the venue is Tel Aviv's Barbie Club.

Saturday will be a night to remember at the Barby – Robyn Hitchcock & Venus 3 – Peter Buck (R.E.M.), Scott McCaughey (Young Fresh Fellows, R.E.M.), Bill Rieflin (Ministry, R.E.M.) with Rockfour opening (http://www.midnighte...om/mag/?p=17566).

The Tour Dates page of robynhitchcock.com confirms the date. This is preceded by a night of Hitchcock playing solo the entirety of the 1990 album The Eye, on March 22nd.

With Buck, Rieflin and McCaughey, half of R.E.M. are playing live in Israel this Spring.

Hitchcock is no stranger to the country; September last year he was featured in the English-language daily The Jerusalem Post (http://www.jpost.com....aspx?id=237019).

Here's hoping they might do a few other European dates. Saw them in Sweden both in 2006 and 2007, pretty great and Robyn is a genius!
Also actually pretty nice that Peter mainly plays guitar in this combo. His bass playing role in the BBP is prehaps a bit dull at times...

Not to go all Sweden on you but wouldn't that be ⅗'s of R.E.M.?
"We were listening to the UNC radio (station) there and they were playing an R.E.M. song. I like R.E.M. fine, but at the end of it, the DJ says, 'Ya that was R.E.M., the sound of the new South'. I looked at my roommate and we said, Gawd, if that's the sound of the new South, I preferred it when it was on the skids. That's how we got the name."

I think one could go into a complicated calculation on the percentages there. Is Peter 33% or 25% (or 17 years of 25% and 14 of 33%)? :)

In anticipation of the gig this weekend, in Tel Aviv, The Jerusalem Post is running an interview with Robyn Hitchcock. The British musician discusses his collaboration with Peter Buck:

Quote

“Our tastes are similar, whether it be shirt styles, or the same guitar sounds, and a lot of the same music,” said Hitchcock in a phone call last week from his office in London. “Our musical senses are pretty similar – he was more into punk and garage rock than I was. I’m a bit more spindly and English. But our guitar sound is similar.”
