Is just a personal opinion or Michael could be a wonderful actor?

Looking not only at R.E.M. concerts, but also at R.E.M. videos, I’ve always appreciated Michael’s acting very much. His charisma in acting is incredible, considering how much expressive he is. The best acting videos? Of course Bad Day, Leaving NY, Animal, but also Mine Smell Like Honey (I’m surprised for his quiet expression in this video…I would have vomited just after 2 steps!).
I really missed his presence in the latest videos because I consider excellent the way he acts.
So, since he seems he doesn’t want to be a singer anymore, what do you think about an eventual career as an actor? I think this is the art where he is more talented after being a singer, musician and frontman (and he wouldn’t be such a wonderful frontman if he weren’t a great actor). Then movies are one of his passions, so why not being an actor?

I could see him being an actor, but I don't think he'd do it.

Wasn't Michael considered for the Kevin Spacey role in Se7en?

I admittedly haven't seen Stipe do a lot of acting but what little I have seen I wasn't impressed by. He should probably stick to music, art and staying behind the scenes when it comes to filmmaking.
"We were listening to the UNC radio (station) there and they were playing an R.E.M. song. I like R.E.M. fine, but at the end of it, the DJ says, 'Ya that was R.E.M., the sound of the new South'. I looked at my roommate and we said, Gawd, if that's the sound of the new South, I preferred it when it was on the skids. That's how we got the name."

Michael did a fairly good job in Color of a Brisk and Leaping Day. Even when his acting was a bit stilted, he really just LOOKED right for the part. He speaks in the film so quietly and mumbly that you'd think he's more or less playing himself. I think the best scene is when his railroad friend is very subtly coming on to him in the bar where they're playing pool (at least I think they were). His face is very expressive there without doing much at all. It's all in his eyes.
But I think he gave his best performance as Captain Scrummy, as shown above.
In general, I don't think he's really cut out to be an actor. He really has a strong persona on stage, but I think that's different.

I have no idea how people function without near-constant internal chaos. I'd lose my mind. ~ Dave Eggers

Michael is too much like himself in Brisk and Leaping. That said, He's the only reason the movie is worth watching. I think it should have just been a documentary about a train conductor and his dog.

Got no fucking hope. His act was his act, got no other acting in him.

I'd tell him not to quit his day job, but... too late.

Well some people get bored after they retire(quit) and decide to go back to work. Here's hoping.
