Got turned onto this band a few years ago thanks to frequent mentions from Robert Plant, Buddy Miller and some friends who kept recommending them to me. Finally saw them in concert at UNC in Chapel Hill, NC a couple of years ago. That concert was one of the very best I've seen in recent years. To get a taste of their music, I suggest checking out this Tiny Desk concert they did for NPR recently:

"We were listening to the UNC radio (station) there and they were playing an R.E.M. song. I like R.E.M. fine, but at the end of it, the DJ says, 'Ya that was R.E.M., the sound of the new South'. I looked at my roommate and we said, Gawd, if that's the sound of the new South, I preferred it when it was on the skids. That's how we got the name."

It's a warm and balmy summer night here, I'm really enjoying this music.  I could sheesh on a hookah pipe right now.

Interesting...are they singing in Arabic/Amharic-Geez? The first song is absolutely brilliant! This is a good show and thanks for sharing.

I hope to catch them live one day.
