Hey, it's alright, everybody can stop feeling guilty.
It appears that *I* destroyed REM.
Yep, all my fault. I never knew I wielded that much power, and I certainly didn't mean to destroy REM but Jodi, the fount of all wisdom has decided it was me.
Sorrah.

Yes what a shame after 31 years of work you destroyed 'em. I'll only forgive you if you destroy U2 and , or , Cliff Richard as well.

Seems like someone's quick to jump to conclusions, given that i've never made any direct comment on the story one way or the other...
I suppose i would be joining some illustrious company however...

Ahh...threads like these remind me of the good ol' days.
P.S. I blame the band's break-up on Etty's unrelenting mockery of the Eagle Song. "Faster than the fastest thing of all!"

Hey, I already lamented my (unintentional) part in breaking REM, now I have to shoulder the blame for Mills mid life crisis too? Jeez. Maybe I should capitalize on this fantastic array of powers I didn't know I had. Anybody want to hire me to fuck someone's shit up? Apparently I'm really, really good at it.

Well at least I'm in a list with some cool people. We are not alone. The lucky 13 and look today's the 13th.

Ok, Jodi, Enough. There is something not right with you - and you know, most of the time I am happy to roll with the quirky. But this feels wrong - aside from the outlandish claims and the constant thread derailment, I honestly think that you are ill. You are making a spectacle of yourself. I feel bad for you. I think that it has reached a point that for your benefit, you need a little time away to cool off and do whatever you need to do.
I don't post that often but I connect everyday on murmurs and like taking time to read discussions on the forum. it turned so bad here for few weeks, I just wanted to thank you!

Big money contracts killed R.E.M.

I don't think they changed their music because of money and contracts, but because of their own ability to compose silly pop songs, their genuine interest in the poetic aspects of the pop song structure, and positive audience reactions to these changes. They did what they wanted to do. I really don't like big stadium bands like Oasis, Coldplay or U2, but R.E.M. always stayed with me throughout their different incarnations. I'm a hip hop lover, a shoegaze enthusiast and free-jazz-nerd, who happens to see more in R.E.M. than "just" a brillant jangle-rock-band that sold out.
