You don´t stop doing why you love and was born to do for no reason.

What I really don´t understand is why they said that they are not going to play together again, never. That was strange. They could disband and eventually play a song in 5 years for a benefit concert or something. I thought it was such a strong statement.

That was the point. Sometimes, in order to move on absolutely and excitedly to a new thing, you have to categorically draw a line under the old thing. That was clearly Michael's main way of thinking. Having decided to do so, they were able to put R.E.M. in a box, regard it from afar and from a bird's eye, giving cause to celebrate it.

I wouldn't be *surprised* if they all appeared together on stage at one time in the future for some nice family reason. After all, they have played with Bill once or twice. But it would only be for a bit of fun - the best R.E.M. tribute band the world will ever see.

Indeed nice to see them on stage together again. Very cool!

BTW, is High_Speed_Train and our dear Thornie the same person? The internal little conversations almost indicate that.

Don't be stupid Sweden, it's obviously Michael Stipe! :D

Seriously though, I wouldn't be suprised because everyone here knows that Thornie is nuts and nobody agrees with Thornie except for High_Speed_Train. Didn't she do the same thing before? Make another account to agree with what she was saying? (can't believe somebody would actually do that btw!)

Sadly I've seen this happen before.  Just recently on another forum.  In this case certain members got some really nasty pm's from someone claiming to be their own friend. They got banned, started another account and used their own name to send apologies.  I wish people who do this would get help for it.

Yes, nice photo. I never for once thought that the end of the band meant that said individuals would never play again together. That would be a silly assumption.
Ahoy!

Love seeing them together! Of course, I always believed what they said about their being no acrimony. But that's just me. I'm an "Oswald acted alone" "The Moon landing was real" kinda guy. But still, it is very nice to see them together.

Right - coming to murmurs.com to have a nice discussion about R.E.M. :)
Wrong - claiming michael stipe has an account here, he speaks to you through songs and that you have an online relationship with him

Now for thorn plucker's version of right and wrong:

Right - coming to murmurs.com to have a nice little chat with michael stipe, maintain our online relationship and hopefully inspire him to write more songs about me :)
Wrong - anyone who doesn't believe this or questions this is wrong

Thomas, don't take this personal, a little suggestion to you, Sweden and the others who think I'm the same person as thorn plucker, that's the silliest thing ever said here, stop making fools of yourselves. I assume my part of responsibility for this thread derailing, I want to continue being part of this R.E.M. universe, I just don't know how, with all this negativity it's harder and harder to log on here every day. If you'll excuse me now I have to turn my attention to other real world activities.

Wrong - treating members of the r.e.m. organization and other members of this board with extreme disrespect and contempt including, but not limited to, name calling, personal insults, and personal attacks.

weren't you treating a member of the r.e.m. organisation with extreme disrespect when you made up those bullshit stories about him? to me, that's worse than any name calling, personal insults, or personal attacks...

here's the deal thomas08 ...

i sat on this board for nearly seven years - participating at different levels - reading insult after insult directed at michael.  granted - the insults were coming from just a few people, but as i noted in the other thread, they were like the hecklers in the audience, completely destroying what a fansite experience should be like. for nearly seven years, when a member would exclaim that michael's lyrics were SHIT or this song was GARBAGE or michael was LAZY ... my response was always ... like or dislike michael's work - there's nothing wrong with doing either - but please do not attack him personally because michael puts his heart and soul into everything he does. now i suppose i could have just kept saying that as people kept insisting that it was SHIT, GARBAGE, and that he was LAZY.  But I got tired of it ... so I decided to share the story about Leaving New York.
to be honest, this is where you lose me. I've read the story and thought it was extremely disrespectful to claim that song was written about you. when people make comments saying they that they dont like michaels latest lyrics, that's just their opinions. when you wrote that story, you didnt say it was your opinion that michael wrote the song about you, you claimed it was fact.

View Postthorn plucker, on 11 January 2012 - 10:54 AM, said:

I know that some of the people who have read the story think that it's pretty cool; some do not.  The same sort of thing applies to whether or not  the crap that is sometimes written on this site affects the decisions made by the r.e.m. organization

the exact same can be said for you! you're doing the exact same thing by claiming to have an online relationship with michael!

thomas08 - you can certainly choose whether or not you believe the things I posted - you can agree or disagree with my conclusions.  but as far as the information I've presented? - it's not fabricated -  it's real.

what information?? can you give me a list, and proof, that any of the information you've posted is real? apart from posting online conversations with members of murmurs who you think are michael stipe.

i am really sorry if i sounded harsh earlier on but its just annoying having to read the things you've posted, about having an online relationship with michael. it's not healthy - it's delusional. it's like believing in santa past 13. and if you really believe these things then you need help :/

maybe it's a lost in translation thing - the song was written before the fanclub received my letter - so sorry - i believed it went without saying that he didn't consciously write a song about me.  does this sound better?  There are so many similarities between my life and the content of both the song and the video Leaving New York that I believe that somehow subconsciously michael tapped into that information and ended up writing a song about me.

i'm not sure what you're trying to say.

real and verifiable -

the icq conversation logs are real
the futurepicenter pictures are real
my necklace is real
the fact that the necklace is made of amber is real
the fact that the ancient greeks called amber elektron is real
the fact that my friend had a city of new york tshirt (even though he lived in memphis) is real
the fact that michael wrote Leaving New York before he could have known who I was is real
the lyrics of Leaving New York are real
the fact that the Leaving New York video was produced before michael could have known who i was is real
the fact that maynard and i both worked as flight attendants is real
the fact that a good portion of the video takes place in the airport (or in an airplane) is real
the fact that i was working at starbucks when the video was produced is real
the fact that michael is carrying a paper cup similar to a starbucks cup throughout the video is real
the fact that michael is carrying a dreamcatcher necklace in the video is real
that fact that there used to be a store called Amber Dreams right down the street from the REM offices in Athens is real
the fact that there are flashes of amber throughout the Leaving New York video is real
the fact that i sent michael a letter about the coincidences is real
the fact that michael started singing the verse about the necklace differently after he received my letter is real ...

these are scrambled btw to accentuate the point

and yep ... i have no doubt that someone else could pick out a video and say that they have this or that or whatever in common with it.  cool for you! i say.

and i have to admit - this is where i start to feel a little offended.  i don't know you ... but i'll tell you ... if you were in the same situation, that you had been writing to someone who you believed  to be michael (or someone who knew michael) and he was (or you thought he was) responding to you in some way ... and you, for whatever reason decided that you would post the information on murmurs - i would look at it and i would think that that was so cool. i wouldn't call you names, i wouldn't say that you were delusional - because it was real - you did something - provable - michael did something - provable - and there seemed to be a connection.  cool!   that isn't delusional.  and again, i don't know you, but you seem to be a reasonable person - if you said that that same thing had been going on for years - i would say that that's SUPER cool - and even if it was all purely coincidence - i would stil think that it's cool.  i guess i just don't understand the type of hostility that's been directed at me for doing the same.

:(
C'mon play the goddamn music

It's the octopus that crawled back to the sea.

this is starting to sound like an alien conspiracy now. im sure you are a nice person but i just dont buy this at all. just do one thing; go to somebody you call a close friend, tell them your story, show them all the posts you've made on the subject here, just see how they react and chances are they just wont believe you. this really isn't healthy at all and maybe a friend could help you understand this better. :( you just really need to accept the fact that this isn't true

I can't imagine that a person could have something in common with a video? We all may have things in common with people who are in the video.
I know one things for sure. Seeing a close up of Michael's nose. Yes we all have a nose as Michael does and yes it does get filled with snot and boogers from time to time.

A non-believer Jodi.  You are not god almighty.

Stop ruining every thread.

Many of us would jump at the chance to be friends with Michael believe me.  But to lie and say, "he's my friend and contacts me everyday is insane".  That would mess up any chance that could exist to be friends with him. And trust me if one of us could become friends with Michael,we wouldn't come and boast about it on a message board because no one is going to believe it, unless you have proof.
