Michael was at Patti's New Years Eve show last night in NYC at the Bowery Ballroom.  He sang Whichita Lineman.  I had planned earlier in the year to go and see Patti do her birthday show and New Year's Eve show, but because of low finances I couldn't afford to go.

There is nothing on youtube yet as far as I know but here's a picture.

This is probably my favourite song of all time.

I hope it appears on YouTube soon!
That someone just pulled me up and out of cartoon quicksand.

I got to see Patti's birthday show for the third year in a row and would have never been able to see the New Year's show, but it certainly would have been wonderful to see this performance. At least I got to hear Glenn Campbell sing it live last year.
Visit my live show trading page at https://sites.google...site/countfeed/.
Shows I have seen: 1995: 6/2 - Chicago; 1999: 8/20 - Tinley Park; 2004: 10/1 - Philadelphia, 10/30 - Atlantic City, 11/ 4 - New York City; 2005: 7/8 - Ipswich, 7/10 - Cardiff; 2008: 6/6 - Chicago, 6/11 - D.C., 6/14 - Jones Beach, 6/18 - Philadelphia, 6/19 - New York City, 6/21 - Atlanta.

Not as good as when he sung it last time. Stipe and Smith are like Charles and Camilla in a way. Anyway, I think we hear why stipe wont go solo, his voice goes off very quickly. Harder to get it back as time goes on, evidenced in how the good voice kicked in later and later throughout the tours.

Stipe would jump through hoops for smith, so I expect some weird wailing collaboration sometime.

Great to see a vid show up. Would have been a treat to actually be there.   Nice to see an really appreciative audience in NY.

Michael said he wouldn't go solo because he thinks he would sound like watered down R.E.M.  He said that on one of the videos he and Mike did.

He hasn't sang it since 1995 if I'm right. The version of the song that is on the Bittersweet Me single is from that tour.  I think a few years after that Peter said the guys went to a really tacky Karaoke bar in Florida and Michael sang some Jimmy Web songs so that was probably one of them.  So yeah 17 years later Michael's voice isn't going to be the same. Though I think Michael's voice was very strained in 1995 because they didn't tour for so long and because the tour was so long.  I found he sounded better on each tour after that.

I think his voice is like an aging fine wine.
