I don’t know if murmurs.com is going away or not tomorrow, but I just wanted to say it’s been fun. Really. Sorry if I’ve been too serious sometimes and pissed people off, but I’ll miss this place if it goes away.
Anyway, looking back, I think this might be my favorite murmurs related picture of all time…

I was thinking the same....i don't know if murmurs.com is going to disappear or not tomorrow....and it's a very sad thinking....it's been a great place that i'll never forget....it's for real the end of the world this time...no more R.E.M., no more murmurs.com....so sad...so sad...
So, if it's a real goodbye....well, thank you Ethan for giving us a very great place to share our passion and thanks to all involved on it! great job guys!
The new year is going to start for us without R.E.M. and so without murmurs.com and we only have the music....R.E.M. will play in our houses, cars, wherever you want...they will be with us with their music and this is the most important thing. Our memories will live with us forever and they won't leave us....
Goodbye everyone, i really wish you all a great new year and a beautiful life!

Is it really the end?? I hope not as its virtually the only easy way to keep up to date with all things REM but in case it is a warm farewell and thanks to all and a happy new year!

Sad farewells to everyone here, it was great "knowing" you all. I'm going to miss looking in every day, but hope to still keep up with some of you.

If the boards stay open, that would be the best thing ever. A R.E.M. message board will still be needed in the future.

Ethan had said basically we would have to start paying some money to keep the server. I wouldn't mind donating what I could afford. I hope this stays open. I spent ten years of my life on this website. I made a lot of friends here.
You know there are free forums one of us could create. I know it isn't the same but hey the members of R.E.M. will still be doing things and we need a place to spread the news. I have one but it's bombarded with spam, so nobody posts there.

No, Ethan has said he'll pay for the server costs, but that someone will need to step up and offer their time and effort in terms of admin duties and technical work. Please keep the facts straight.

If Murmurs does go away, I'm really going to miss this place.

Yes good idea to keep it straight so as not to blur the issue , so hopefully someone with the technical nouse and time will step forward. Unfortunately I don't have either but would donate to someone who did. I can see that it may not be so attractive when theres no active band to discuss etc but there will always be discussions to be had on such a long and great back catalogue.
Just got to say , that although I may have moaned and droned about negativity on this site occassionally , basically its a pretty well mannered and a fun place to go.If anyone has ever visited morrissey-solo.com for example , you can have a look at what a trainwreck a fan forum site can be when its over populated by nutjobs.
