I wonder if during the discussions about breaing up they discussed, or Mike and peter asked Michael if he was planning on a solo career and going on tour singing R.E.M songs. I was just daydreaming about such a thing and thought it'd be great if he had a hit or just a critically acclaimed cult hit album/s and went on tour gaining good reveiws with w/e it was he was doing did Peter and Mike think about that and maybe worry about it. They're only human and it'd be pretty tough to take if Michael was out there having a good time and getting lauded for his solo work while they were stuck with ltd. options as part of TBP or TP playing small venues to audiences not as interested as at Micheale solo shows. I hope they don't feel bad about it but I wouldn't care. I just want a Michael solo album and it'd be very interesting if he delivered one unto us.

Isn't it funny that ITEOTWAWKI (AIFF) isn't on Live, Olympia or Songs for a Green world. I thought they'd played it at every gig since they wrote it.

1) Because he was mentally ill and probably had no idea who he attacked, I assume.
2) Not sure if there's question in there.
3) No, not really. And it was indeed performed at both Florida shows making up the Green World diss, and it was part of the original radio broadcast and is included on most other bootleg releases of that broadcast. Olympia? Well, hardly your average shows... Additionally, it was just played once during the whole 2004/2005 tours, and not during the first part of the 2008 tour.

There's some thoughts on the Kenneth/Dan Rather thing in the R.E.M. FAQ, scroll down to question C6.
Not sure about the Stipe solo record question either but in some of the interviews he and Mills did in conjunction with the promotion of Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage, he indicated that he has no plans to do one.

"We were listening to the UNC radio (station) there and they were playing an R.E.M. song. I like R.E.M. fine, but at the end of it, the DJ says, 'Ya that was R.E.M., the sound of the new South'. I looked at my roommate and we said, Gawd, if that's the sound of the new South, I preferred it when it was on the skids. That's how we got the name."

Yeah I think Michael will more like have an Art exhibit open in an art gallery or museum before he would record a solo album and perform shows.
I do love your imagination Pilgrimager.

I was just lookng at setlist fm and noticed on the Monster tour they only started doing Welcome to the occupation in Japan. I wonder if that was a coincidence considerint the US bases there.

I'm just reading the Rolling Stone 'best RnR band in U.S' and it mentions Peter had just bought a mandolin and '
figured he'd learn to play sooner or later.'
Sorta spooky that they didn't know the signficance of that at the time.#9

Also. Does anyone else think Iteotwawki(aiff) is an ironic/sarcastic song about the changes brought about by Regan in the 80's.

I was listening to the Shocking club gig in Milan in 1991 last night and heard someone request a song and Michael said 'No. I hate that song.' It sounded like they'd requested Catapult.

Stipe has also mentioned his disdain for "Catapult" more recently, perhaps in an interview about the last tour and how they choose what songs to perform.

check this interview out.http://pitchfork.com...views/8712-rem/
In it Michael and then Mike say respectively 'is that on Monster?' vvis-a-vis WTFK and 'Is that on NAIHF?' vis-a-vis Electrolite. I find this a bit disingenuous and annoying. Why do they seem to want to create the impression they're not perfectly au fait with their back catalougue?
