It's soon time to leave northern Ethiopia and head back home. Been here for over 8 months. Thought I'll post some photos here to show what a wonderful place it is. I've decided not to include any photos of the refugees and their children, though.

Wow! Those pics are great thanks! They bring back heaps of memories, smells and tastes- injera, Tigrinian plaits, wat, axumite crosses. Beautiful ! 10 years ago I spent almost three months trekking through Eritrea and Northern Ethiopia with camels and it is one of my favourite places on earth. Thanks for the nostalgic trip and safe travels.

I already responded via a PM, but again...great pics!  One of these days we will meet up somewhere in Africa and have a beer!

Thanks all. The photos came out quite well actually. The past 8-1/2 months were amazing, in spite of the rather challenging working environment (the politics). I'm back in Sweden now, working on my report, trying to hold back tears and all that. Missing the injera and the wots, the macchiatos, and the shoulder-jerking heartbeat of Tigray. But its great to be back with the family for sure.

Eric: Definitely! I should be back in Africa again this year.

alchemist2: It will be interesting to compare the difference now. Things appear to be changing so fast (at least in the towns). Lot's of Chinese workers everywhere. The road in Shire, for example, got constructed within the time I was there!

Wow it really sounds different! It was bound to happen! They were just building a road (new one) through the north when I was there and lots of construction if bridges etc through the Simian Mtns we followed goat herders tracks and camped - when we got to Addis the city people thought we were mad and amazed we weren't attacked by Hyena or wild dogs. The rural locals were truly amazing even walking 10 km out of their way to help us find water or put us on the right direction - incredible people I have a grand respect for them plus they make a good macchiato and pizza! Italian occupation had to be good for something. Sounds like progress is finally approaching hopefully it happens at Africa time pace.
