A friend of my daughter was moving house and couldn't take her with him so we've adopted her.  She is a 9 month old Maremma sheepdog, her name is Luna.  She kind of looks like a polar bear.

This is Luna with Pepper our 7 y.o. Jack Rusell X in a game of tug 'o war.   Pepper is a small dog but he knows how to hold his own.

She needs regular brushing because these dogs malt.  I've never owned a fluffly haired dog before, always had short haired, except one we had was a German Shepard X,  he needed regular brushing.
I've been taking Luna for walks along with Pepper.  She is a very strong dog and it's been difficult when we approach someone else walking or another dog behind a fence, Luna tends to go nuts and I have to keep her under control.  I don't think the previous owner gave her much training.  It's what I need to do now because she is still growing.

Baxter looks part kelpie, though I'm not 100%  sure if he is.  He's cute!  I love his name, Baxter.

Beautiful dogs.  Luna and Baxter are great names.   What breed(s) is Baxter?

I don't think I  mentioned this on here but I almost lost my dog Shelby. Back on November 2nd we were on one of our longer walks and a man was out walking his two pit bulls, they were on leashes.  Shelby started barking at them as she has done before.  The one dog started barking and jumping, the leash broke and the dog ran over so fast we couldn't get away.  Shelby and the dog started to fight and the dog pinned Shelby down and got her by the neck.  The owner quickly ran over and forced his arm in the dog's mouth.  Shelby suffered 8 puncture wounds around the left side of her neck and a bad wound on her paw.    She needed surgery to correct the puncture wounds. She spend a full day in the hospital.  I did not let go of Shelby and just kept praying out loud for this monster of a dog to let go. My thumb got bitten, the teeth went straight through my nail and chipped the tip of the bone, other wounds as well around the thumb. It is still healing.  Shelby is doing wonderful now.  I'm so grateful that she recovered and is back to her normal, lovable, playful self.   The Owners turned out to be decent people and took full responsibility and paid for our hospital bills.  They even reported it to the Police. It was just a bad accident.

Here is my beautiful girl.

I actually don't know, we have no idea who the dad was because it was just some stray that must've wandered into the farm some day and we never saw it. His mother is a medium sized dog, kind of similar to some sort of hound and she's mostly black with parts of white which means he must of inherited his colours from his dad. I'd love to know what kind of dog he was as I don't think I've ever seen a dog like baxter before, does anyone have any ideas?

Also, I got the name from my favourite film, Anchorman. Ron burgandy's dog is called baxter haha :P

That's terrible about what happened to your dog, she looks lovely :)

I'm glad you and Shelby pulled through that ordeal Denise.  Must have been terrifying.   At least the owners took responsiblity paying for the medical bills.  Pit Bulls are a restricted breed here in Australia, you can't import or  breed them.  I believe they want them phased out here.  This is because of attacks involving these type of dogs.  A few months ago a small child was attacked and sadly fatally injured by a pit bull.  I've heard mixed feelings about these and other supposedly dangerous dogs.  Some say these dogs often attract the wrong kind of owner.  I'm not sure what to believe.
I remember when you first introduced Shelby here at murmurs. :)  She looking very lovable.

Thanks.

There is a lot of mixed feelings about these dogs.  I do think these dogs need to be with proper owners and I think they shouldn't live in a congested city but more so in suburbs or the country side where homes have bigger yards. These dogs need to be with calm people.   You know we nearly adopted one.  A full bred Staffordshire Terrier. She was a really sweet dog.  She passed all the tests at the main animal shelter here. She was good with other dogs and children.  She had heartworm disease and I didn't want another sick dog so we decided we wanted a puppy so we  looked on a site called petfinder and found Shelby and adopted her at only 10 weeks old.  I can't believe she will be 3 in February.

I've tried to give these dogs a chance. I will never own one now and unfortunately a lot of the dogs that are up for adoption are those kind of dogs.  My city really needs to have stricter laws about the breeding of these dogs and the type of homes they live in.  In the last few years they have busted up too many dog fighting rings.  I do blame humans for why a lot of these dogs turn out mean.

I'm thankful Shelby is fine now.  I have bought some dog repellent pepper spray to help keep us safer.  I'm still on edge whenever I walk her.
