Any word on where and how to correspond with Michael, Mike, Peter and Bill now that REM is disbanded and the office and fanclub are winding up? I looked and saw nothing on this at remhq.com. Michael has his website. Is there any other word about this?
I looked for it,
And I found it,
Miles Standish proud,
Congratulate me. ...
Answer me a question,
I can't itemize, I can't think clearly,
To me for reason it's not there,
I can't even rhyme ...

I understand some operations will remain. The office as such will close but some gear at West Clayton will remain and probably be handled by Dewitt to some extent, there will be certain legal issues, design issues and financial issues coming up still. I understand some of the office staff will maybe work part time with stuff, but they may have yet to figure out exactly how. I can't really see how 2012 would be any different than, say, 2006 or 2009 in terms of operations. No recording, no tour and no release, but still... (However, those were actually the only years I could come up with from 1980 that didn't have any of the above. Actually, they did do one demo session in 2009, but still.) Whether this means that there will still be anyone actually reading letters and whatever else, I don't know. It's an interesting question.

In a somewhat related question, what about the fate of the R.E.M. HQ website? Will it shut down along with the fanclub? I would hope it would stay up as a place to watch videos, read the band's history via old news postings and be able to buy various merch whether it be CDs, DVDs, apparel, etc.
"We were listening to the UNC radio (station) there and they were playing an R.E.M. song. I like R.E.M. fine, but at the end of it, the DJ says, 'Ya that was R.E.M., the sound of the new South'. I looked at my roommate and we said, Gawd, if that's the sound of the new South, I preferred it when it was on the skids. That's how we got the name."

I would hope it would stay, but maybe the band don't want to keep it running. I just presumed it would close.

I'd be shocked if R.E.M. doesn't maintain their official website.
The Beatles have one http://www.thebeatles.com/
Led Zeppelin has one http://www.ledzeppelin.com/
The Kinks have one http://www.thekinks.info/
The Police have one http://www.thepolice.com/
The Jackson 5 have one. I'm not talking about Michael Jackson (he's got one, too). I'm talking about the honest to God Jackson 5. http://www.jackson5abc.com/
The dB's have one http://www.thedbs.com/
Let's Active has one (an offshoot of Mitch Easter's website) http://www.mitcheast...letsactive.html
I can think of more reasons to keep it (or to have some form of official presence, even if it changes) than not.

I also hope they keep the site running and updated at times. as mentioned above, tons of former bands still have cool sites around. If they have new items for sale or simply want to keep us in the loop with the guys' new endeavors (put Scott McCaughey in there as well) that would be pretty cool. Even if they want to just mention some political stuff on REM's behalf, I'd be interested in that even if my politics aren't quite the same.

The site will remain running and someone will always pick up and sort the mail at PO Box 8032.

Thank you, Ethan! Something told me you'd have the answer.

Does Michael have his own bedroom?
That someone just pulled me up and out of cartoon quicksand.
